Windows 8 Skype connections settings

Hello everyone,

i've been trying to set up my windows 8 skype app connection settings however i am unable to perform such configurations,i wanted to disable upnp, disable tcp and udp liten ports and also http listen ports and disable file transfer , i could disable that via windows registry using policies and even disable skypeAPI however those registry settings no longer work for the new 8 skype app...i really need to disable those stuff for security purposes, can anyone help me out with this? i need to know a registry setting or maybe another way to setup and disable those things...any help here is greatly appreciated and i look forward for a reply!
thanks in advance,

Re: Windows 8 Skype connections settings

Unfortunately, you can't. This features / options are not available in modern apps / Skype.

Also note that, Port 80 must be forwarded for modern Skype app to operate properly.

Please See this thread.

Re: Windows 8 Skype connections settings

well that sucks so much then, i was lookin for a faster and more secure skype version for windows 8 guess i was wrong..everything seems pretty safe except for the upnp option and tcp, udp, http port listen...thats a bad implementation why not give the user options for that?

it just breaks all the integration purposes?

anyways ...wont use skype for a while till they release a version which allows u to change those settings ..i have been digging into the skype apps folder and looking into the scripts files to see if i could change it manually but no luck...couldnt find the options to disable it..

i got my pc hacked twice even using a whole bunch of polcies and app locker, bitlocker a 128bit password and a big one for the standard user too with unicode characters but i got hacked and i dont want to again..

anyways thanks for replying and if it has a hidden way to disable those options please send me a pm coz i really need those disabled!

thanks in advance,

Re: Windows 8 Skype connections settings

Well i guess i found part of the solution myself? how can it be impossible to change the connection settings if the shared.xml file is still available and some stuff still work as the desktop version, for example the <DisableUPnP>1</DisableUPnp>,<DisablePort80>1</DisablePort80> and DisableUDP and DisableUDPListening work?

the only thing i need to change which ive been striving to find out is the DisableTCPListening which i still couldnt disable, can anyone add something on the top of that ? i am really willing to disable the tcplistening ...any thoughts?

thanks in advance,

Re: Windows 8 Skype connections settings

Hi Kmase80,

No need to forward port 80 , i actually have blocked it from my windows firewall and now skype only uses port 443...

if you want to have port 80 its ok but to me makes no sense at all, and it breaks with all the security purposes....

anyways i hope that an advanced user can also provide me the extra information i need to disable tcp port listening completely..

thats the only thing i still couldnt disable but the rest of it i already did..

thanks

Re: Windows 8 Skype connections settings

It keeps saying on my Windows 8 skype: try again or reopen your skype. Can you help? (I am Polish and I don't know if I translated it right)
