Video won't work both ways

First:  The people I call only have this problem when talking to me.  I have this problem with everyone I call so my assumption is the problem is with me.

When I place a video call the other party cannot see me and I cannot see them. 

When I then turn on my video the call goes to HOLD. 

When I try to turn off HOLD it goes back on immediately. 

After several tries it will stay off and I will be able to see the other party but they still cannot see me.

I can see myself if I have that option on so my camera is working.

What version of Skype are you running?  Click Help > About Skype for the specifc version number.

What type webcam?

Are you able to do an audio only call?

If you click on Tools > Options > Video settings, do you see your own video there?

My version is 5.5.0.124

version 5.5.0.124 Webcam is iPevo PoV. I can do audio only calls. I can do calls with audio only for recipient and video for me. Yes, I do see my own video.

First thing I'd suggest you try is updating to version 5.8.0.154, the latest as of this moment.  You can download the full installer via this link:

http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-full

See if that corrects your problem before looking further for a fix.

Excellent!  I just got off a video call with my grandkids and I can appreciate how important that is.
