Why am I being charged for a supposedly free service. Why do I need Skype credit

Why do I need Skype credit. Why is my skype credit low. Is Linux the operating system for windows?

This is one of the most frustrating installations that I can ever remember.

I am new to Skype and the support is confusing at best.

Skype to Skype calls are indeed free.  For calling to phone numbers however, you need to buy Credits or a subscription.

I have no clue what your question is referecing Linux, if it's a question at all.

i don't understand why i am being charged for a skype to skype call.  i have never been charged before.  please help me.  is there any way i can talk with a person or do i have to use this format?

You can't be charged for Skype-to-Skype calls. If you are charged, then this means that you are calling a phone number.

it is for a telecourse and i was told it is a skype number and other skype members are not being charged for it.  does this make any sense?

There is nothing such as a Skype number. Either you are calling another Skype user, what is free, or are you calling a phone number, and this is not free.

If others are using Skype to access that telecourse, you need to find the Skype account name the others are using to access the telecourse. Then it would be a free call for you from Skype.

As others mentioned, calling a phone number from Skype - even if that number is a number used by another Skype user - would require Skype Credit or a subscription to cover the cost of that call.

thanks for all your help everyone.  i figured it all out.  i had put the incorrect information in and not only that, but put it in the wrong place.  so, now i have the name of the freeconference call and there is no charge.  i'm happy.  thanks again for your help.
