Re: Voicemail

senortalones posted this solution and it worked for me on a Mac.

1. In preferences, open the Calls tab.

2. Click the Call Forwarding checkbox.  I know, you dont want to forward the call, but hang on.

3. Set the time to forward call to about half of what you want it.  I set it for 6 seconds, because 12 seconds total works for me.

4. Then put your OWN skype id in the the forward field. Yes, strange but it seems to work. I guess you are essentially forwarding it to yourself.

So what happens is this. The call rings through to your account and if you don't pick it up in 6 seconds, it forwards to the same account and continues ringing. If you don't pick it up in 6 more seconds, it bounces to voicemail.

If you need and pay for the call forwarding service, then obviously this advice will not work for you...

Re: Voicemail

I have tried this solution, but to no avail. Skype does not allow me to use my own ID for call forwarding, because one can forward only to a person who accepted one's contact request. One can not add one's own ID to the contact list. Thus it is impossible to accept one's own contact request. JR

Re: Voicemail

I set up a Google Voice # to forward my Skype calls, then found this post. Yes, had to record VM message using Skype client w/headset mic (Mac) & NOT the phone handset. Totally ridiculous!!! But at last resolved.

Re: Voicemail

[ Edited ]

voicemail can be stored successfully by 3rd parties but in order to listen i have to restart skype

skype (windows client) notification of a missed call is recieved promptly. whether there is a voicemail related to that missed call however is not  known until a restart of client is initated

none of the "solutions' work for me

i noticed this issue a few weeks ago

it was working fine before

Re: Voicemail

I also chatted with technical supported...  Lame response: "aware of issue," "thank you for your patience," "being addressed...."

Unfortunately, even IF it is being addressed, the next update isn't due for another month, as the current v5.9.0.123 is only a couple of days old...  Which means we may be short of vmail for quite some time!

I think I may try uninstalling Skype completely (using the Support guide to remove everything), and then try older versions of Skype....  Am going to sleep now, so hope someone else can give it a shot too in the meantime...

Re: Voicemail

Skype is horrible, I have been loosing business voicemails from customers for a while. Skype has admitted there is a bug in the software and that voicemails dissapear. Their solution is I set up call forwarding to another phone - honestly, they said I should set up another phone line and have my Skype calls forwarded to it to fix their bad software!! I have had a run around for a while and they will no longer even reply to my emails! I contacted the FCC to register a complaint just to find out they do not regulate VOIP phones like Skype. They have referred me to the department of interstate commerce and am filing a fraud complaint.

What a joke Skype is. I am looking into Magic Jack Plus which is be much, much cheaper for the same services (except the video which I never used anyways) and I can transfer my skype number for a small fee. Goodbye Skype you were a horrible company to deal with!

Re: Voicemail

You are screwed, it is a problem with the skype software and I have been told by them in emails they know it is a problem but will not be fixing it for a while.

The customer service emailed me that in order to not loose call, they recommend I get another phone and have calls forwarded there - honestly that was their recommendation they even put it down in a writing (email)!

When asked if they would be compensating me they stopped replying to my emails.

I plan on switching to magic jack plus ($100 a year cheaper than skype) - and can transfer my skype number for $10.

Re: Voicemail

I have tried calling my own skype with my cell phone and it rings, but if I decline the call to check if the voicemail picks up, the call goes "busy".  I've been noticing this for the past month and get calls over and over again that need to leave messages such as automated messages from the school district and voicemail will just not pick up!  I just renewed my online number and subsription!  This better get fixed especially when it's being paid for!!!
