Skype says my friend is not online when she is, and sometimes won't deliver messages.

My girlfriend and I have been having problems for a while with Skype not delivering messages until one of us signs out and back in.  It will just show the spinning wheel even though the other person is online.  It's really annoying, and sometimes we don't even notice for a while until the other person calls and is like "uh, did you leave?" and then we both get mad at Skype.

For the last month or so, it's been not saying when someone logs in.  She'll text me and say "Get on Skype" when I already am, and I have to log out and back in for her to show up as online and for me to show up as online to her.

As of last night, it's not showing when either of us is online.  It just says we're offline even though we can have a conversation and even video call.  We both logged out and in several times and I restarted my computer, but to no avail.  And yes, before you ask, the drop down menu has us both set to online.

Can anyone fix this problem?  We spent a while today exploring several alternatives to Skype and were unsatisfied, but at this point we have no choice as this is really an unacceptable situation.

My wife and I have the same problem. She is sitting right next to me, I can see she is online with Skype. I am online with Skype and yet we do not appear online to each other. I can see her brother online, she can she her brother online. What's going on?

Skype version 5.8.0.154, the latest, I think.

You're seeing an annoying issue that happens occassionally.    To try to prompt a contact who you know is online to show online, you can try a couple of things:

Set your own status to offline for 5 or 10 seconds and then back to online.

Signout of Skype and then sign back in.

Or try sending that contact (your wife in this case) a short IM.  

If none of those work....I hope Skype fixes this problem sometime soon.   They must be aware of it.

I am having the same problem. My contacts (business colleagues and family) never can see that I'm online. They can call me, and I can answer, but they always think I'm unavailable when I really am. I've tried everything mentioned here, as well as de-installing and re-installing Skype on my Mac. Nothing works.

Are you sure your own status is set to Online and not Invisible?

I have the same problem- my friend and I both see each other not online but we are. When I try to call him the call could not be connected.

I tried log off line fine a minute and back online but did not work.

I could make calls before without much problem. However yesterday when I make skype call the call would drop ~ 1 minutes later after connection with the other end- and my internet modem would get to restart automatically.

What's happening?

Same problem with skype between my GF and me, it's odd as the problem is only with each other.  I may try to create another skype account and see if that can fix this annoying problem, although that will be a hasstle.

You might try both removing the other from your Contact lists, then one send a new contact request to be accepted by the other.

That has helped in a few cases where the incorrect offline status was with only one contact.
