Search function not working

I'm trying to search for a contact, something that never used to be a problem, and now, no matter what I type in the "search" field under "contacts" the search function comes up with nothing - even when I know the person's Skype handle. Any ideas?

Using the search field under “Contacts” can only be used to search for contacts that are already in your Contact List. Is this what you want?

I'm having this problem too. The country list is also blank when I go to call. Skype used to work fine until I upgraded to the latest versino of Skype. I have noticed that Skype searching works correctly in Safe mode (Win XP SP3). This is getting really annoying.
