SYSTEM NOTICE - PERFORM SYSTEM MAINTENANCE with (www.) address

[ Edited ]

I've read a few people who had "someone" pop in and call them about maintenance and such.

Has anyone received the message in subject above and then told them to go to:  [Website link deleted.]

I safe searched with my Norton Security and find no such site!  So, I've changed my personal settings to hopefully keep them from "hacking" in.

If you have had these problems, and/or Skype can enlighten me on this subject, please do so.

Here's the copied and pasted version from the 2 "calls" I got:

[2:54:02 PM] *** Call from SYSTEM NOTICE - PERFORM SYSTEM MAINTENANCE!, duration 01:29. ***  Duh, I answered this one, but didn't go to the site that was suggested.

[3:00:50 PM] *** Call from SYSTEM NOTICE - PERFORM SYSTEM MAINTENANCE! ***

Thanks for any assistance!

Re: SYSTEM NOTICE - PERFORM SYSTEM MAINTENANCE with (www.) address

I have already changed my profile before this post to my personal contacts only.  Just in case anyone should suggest.  We'll see if it works in near future.

Re: SYSTEM NOTICE - PERFORM SYSTEM MAINTENANCE with (www.) address

Hi, SewChero, and welcome to the Community!

These notices are known scamming and phishing attempts.  Your proactive measure of adjusting your profile privacy settings to permit incoming audio calls, video calls, and instant messages only from people on your contact list is perfect!

I took the liberty of deleting the website link so others do not accidently click on it and potentially, inadvertently download malware or spyware.  I recommend running your preferred anti-malware/virus/spyware program using the latest virus signature files to ensure your system is "clean."  I would also ensure all available system updates and patches are downloaded and installed.

More information can be reviewed here: 'How to handle spam calls'

Best regards,

Elaine

Re: SYSTEM NOTICE - PERFORM SYSTEM MAINTENANCE with (www.) address on Skype

The first time I got one of these notices on Skype, I answered the call, thinking that it was actually from Skype about their system. That was a BIG mistake because it caused many things to open that I could not close no matter what I did and many popups that would not stop. I actually had to power off my computer to stop the hacking from continuing that day. Since that time,  I have repeatedly blocked "On line Notice- System Performance Maintenance" calls yet continue to get at least one of these notices on Skype each day. Skype claims that blocked users will not be able to contact me so WHY can this user continue to be able to contact me daily? I appreciate you helping me to actually truly block this user from contacting me on Skype again. Thank you.

Re: SYSTEM NOTICE - PERFORM SYSTEM MAINTENANCE with (www.) address

It is a complete waste of time ever clicking the Report Abuse button. It is a pure marketing gimimick as Skype has zero interest in doing anything at all against these spammers. They could, but they won't bother.

You have the choice between simply ignoring these messages or closing yourself off from some potentially fascinating conversations with random people.
