Need Help

Brand spankin new user.  My tool bar looks nothing like what it is shown in the Help videos.

It just says "Features", Get Skype", "Prices", etc across the top.  I can't figure out how to get to where I can add contacts and get to a usable condition.

Any ideas?

If you haven’t yet, you first need to download and install the Skype client/program in order to have access to the features and functions of Skype such as searching and adding contacts, calls and video calls, file transfers, chat and SMS, etc.  Just visit the Get Skype page in Skype.com and select the Skype version appropriate for your operating system or device.

it appears that you are viewing your account via skype.com.  Check the to of this page and you will see the same set of options.  After downloading the program, you need to install it.

After installing, open the Skype program to see the menu options that you are looking for.

OK.  I did what you told me.  I installed the program.  I logged back in.  The top of the screen still looks like the top of this screen.

I'm really basic here so please assume nothing in terms of terminology (or anything else for that matter). 

I did set up an account.  I did download the software.

I googled Skype, I opened my account, signed in, and I still get headers just like the top of this page.  There are also many artfully crafted promotional messages but nothing that I can see that shows me the protocol for making a call. 

I have followed the "Support" menu at the top but I fail to find something that addresses the most simple question - "What do I need to use this".

With hundreds of thousands if users it can't be that hard. 

Is the service really not free and do I need to purchase something to make video calls?  If so, how do I that? 

Is there a basic tutorial somewhere that tells me, "do step 1, do step 2, do step 3, etc"?

I really just want to use this.

Please install the beta version using the instructions below:

You can install the Current beta release by doing this from the top of this page:

Get Skype -> Windows -> Choose the beta release, please do NOT remove what you already have installed, simply, install over.

These instructions have worked for many and is the quickest thing to try to resolve issues such as this.

I think that the words open or run the program is not somekind of a jargon.  just click for the Skype icon in your desktop or your program list to open the Skype program.  You cannot make calls, add and search contacts, etc by accessing your account via Skype.com webpage.  You need to open the Skype application.

I personally suggest that you look for video tutorials in Youtube.com to learn the basic functions of Skype.
