History

Hi.  I'm new to this community so if I'm posting to the wrong board, please feel free to let me know.  I have an issue with my history in skype.  I'm using version 5.5.0.124.  Windows 7.  And I  can no longer see my history.  I have my configuration set to save history forever, yet when I'm on a contact, the most it will let me see is the past 7 days.  How do I change this to access my history longer than the 7 days?  Thanks so much.

Re: History

Have you always used Skype on this computer? Have you ever deleted your profile folder, i.e. the one in %appdata%\skype.

You can always see the available chat history using the SkypeLogView application. You can download it from here:

Re: History

Thank you for your reply.  Yes, I have always used it on this computer and no, I haven't deleted the history.  I'm afraid though when I upgraded it might have deleted the files.  I didn't realize that would happen.  I will try the link you game to to download the history.  THanks.

Re: History

I've actually read that in my search for a resolution.  However, I don't have 'Documents and Settings' and therefore, can't locate my history files.

Re: History

On Windows 7 the correct location is:

C:\Users\your win username\AppData\Roaming\Skype

You can access this location by typing %appdata%\skype in Windows Start Search box, press Enter.

However, SkypeLogView will automatically find this folder and you will be able to see what history is available.

Re: History

Thank you for your reply.  I downloaded Skypelogview and it merely gives me a list of the messages with dates..not the actual messages.

Re: History

And thank you very much for giving me the current location.  However, when I go there I see no history files.  I'm so sorry for being technologically challenged.

Just make sure that the SkypeLogView window is wide enough. The chat text is used to be in the last column entitled “Chat Message”. Also, from the View menu select “Choose Columns” and make sure that the Chat Message item is selected.

By default SkypeLogView shows all call history. If you only want to view chat messages (IM) then got to Options and unselect all options apart from “Show Chat Messages”

All the call history is saved in the main.db database file. You will find this database in the folder with your Skype name. You may actually only see a file with the name “main” but you will see description “Data Base File” in the Type column. Technically speaking, main.db is a standard SQLite database. SkypeLogView is just reading this database file and displays the results in a convenient form.

Re: History

Thanks.  LOL, kinda a foreign language to me....but i'll try and figure it out.  I really appreciate the help.  Just don't get why the history doesn't show like it used to.  It was so easy for us non-techies!
