Can't add a phone number to my own user profile

I'm trying to add my mobile phone number to my profile but no matter how I try to input it (parentheses, dashes, nothing but digits, etc.) it says its not a valid number.  What format do I need to use to add a number?

international dialing format

+, followed by country code, followed by city/area code, followed by the number

PS parentheses, dashes, spaces, etc, mean nothing, and are ignored

I'm having the same problem - no matter how I try to enter a US phone number (including the +1) I get the error message saying "It looks like you've entered an incorrect number..."  Of course the number is correct.

I'm running Skype 2.8 on my old Mac.

Do you have any other ideas?

as a test, you might want to try calling some other, but radically different, U.S. number, just to see if you get the same results

except for the last 4 digits (use 'x' for those), please show us exactly how you are dialing the number via SkypeOut

for calling numbers in the US, there should be exactly 12 characters in the dialstring

Hi Neil, I think you misunderstood - I'm not trying to dial, I'm just trying to add my own office number to my own profile - the number is +1 480-595-xxxx.  I've tried every format I can think of, including the one shown here and I keep getting the message that the number doesn't appear to be correct and Skype won't let me save it.

you are correct -- I am subscribed to this thread and the email notification pointed me directly to your post

without referring back to earlier posts, it read like it was a dialing issue -- my bad

but, if you don't mind, please describe in a bit more detail exactly how you tried unsuccessfully to add this number

Sure - I went to my profile page and clicked on Add Phone Number for the office entry.  I typed in: +1 480-595-xxxx and hit Save.  Skype turned the entry box red and gave me a the message saying that the number appeard to be incorrect.  I tried leaving out the +1, using +1 and omitting the dashes, and so on, but got the same message each time.

I wonder what happens if you try to add this number by using browser to sign in to your account at www.skype.com

and it will not accept my phone number-says it is an incorrect #.....double triple and quadruple checked

I followed the posts, and used the correct format, and it still tells me my phone #s are incorrect........ack
