Can only receive IMS?

 Suddenly now when I phone on Skype or someone phones me, when the connection is made it immediately cuts.  My contacts say that a message appears which says  "Message is contact can only receive IMS"

I am having the same issue...how do we get around this?

When I try to contact another skipe. I get the following message: This contact can only receive chats. Is it the same problem? Is there anyone who knows how to fix it?

Please ask that contact what version they are on and also please check what version you are on as well:

Before trying to isolate an issue, it's always best that one is running the latest Skype release. Which may in itself resolve the issue.

A new version has just been released September 1, 2011:

Please download/install this version from here, when prompted click the open or run button: http://download.skype.com/SkypeSetup.exe

This new version is 5.5.0.115 to check what version you have, using the main Skype client window please do:

Help -> About Skype

i have the same problem. I made sure that both of us downloaded the latest version from here. still the same problem. I am on Windows 7 pro, the contact is on Windows vista home premium. In additon Skype makes my contact's sound go mute.

What version are you/they on?

This is NOT a fix or solution.

Please right click on the Skype Icon in your system tray and change your status to "Offline" for 5 seconds and then back to "Online".

This forces a status update of all your contacts in your contact list as well as a update of your status without the need to logoff/logon.

Also, if possible, call them Skype to Skype and request they do the same, while you are both online.

I've been having the same issue. Why isn't this resolved? Me and my friend both have the latest version of skype !
