A Lot of people I call are asking me why my caller ID shows a strange number nothing to do with the one I have set. I'm using an outgoing US & Canada subscription and entered my (US) cell phone number as the caller ID number. It works okay with numbers I call in my area code - but beyond that it seems to change to 559-661-**** (Mine start 203 30).
I just wonder if there's anything I can do to fix it?
Thanks in advance.

Your best bet is to contact Customer Service and see if they can fix it for you:

I'm having the same problem with SMS going out with the wrong phone number and I it sounds like it's affecting other people too. For me, it had been working fine for over 2 years before, then stopped working this summer. Here is a link to my posting, and I posted the links to yours and the other postings I saw there.
I hope someone notices this and can fix it, it seems to be affecting multiple people.

please do not post the same issue multiple times
you got your answer from Customer Service already about an hour after you posted here
posting the same issue in multiple places causes unnecessary work
your cooperation is appreciated

Frankly, although I concede it is relatively polite, your answer annoys me. He may have 'got his answer' within an hour of posting, but he had to phone for it - admittedly, your reply (advising him to call support) was very quick - but the promptness of response was not the result of someone else's initiative. Moreover, the response he got can hardly be called an 'answer' since it does not solve, or even satisfactorily explain his problem. It seems idiotic to explain this problem in terms of a policy - giving someone else's (at random) Skype number cannot be said to come closer to any policy than giving the desired one. And there seems to be no attempt to solve or even admit (on the part of the technical support representative) that there is a genuine and still unsolved problem.
Then you complain about the 'work' engendered by multiple posting, although there iis little sign of much work going on - as someone else posted, they saw their post (about the same problem) visited over a hundred times, as well as reported by others, with no response from Skype support people.
I do concede that you have responded, as well as another response I saw (presumably from a Skype representative) advising customers with problems to call support. Let us hope that these calls are not as futile as the one we saw reported.
I am surprised (by the way, please forgive the length of this post; in the spirit of your complaint, I am trying to avoid mulitple postings) that Skype does not take this problem more seriously (or show that they are doing so) since they must be losing money: I for one have stopped sending SMS texts via Skype (a paid-for service), as the false number shown to receivers is misleading and embarrassing.
Regards,
