Re: Skype Home Unavailable

every time I try to open skype I get "home page unavailable."  I'm on vista, and updated skype two days ago when prompted.  it had worked fine until then.  ever since, nothing.  I have uninstalled, reinstalled, downloaded and updated, all many times.  I followed the advice to reset and then change internet explorer settings, although I use firefox.  I have tried the status button -- no change.  Two other things seem to be happening at the same time: when I downloaded Skype before today it said that it had a connection problem and was trying another something or other, and the only other thing that happened around the same time is that norton 360 has an issue "live update engine COMmodule has stopped working and was closed."  Any help appreciated, especially help that works!

For testing only, can you please try to disable Norton and see what happens.

If that fails, please try this:

Please go here and click "Run Now": http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378

Note: The newer Skype clients use IE ("Internet Explorer") programmatically, so IE must be currently set up properly, even if it is not your default browser, or not used normally.

Re: Skype Home Unavailable

Your simple fix worked for me too!  You saved me a lot of time.  Funny thing is that my status was already listed as "online' but clicking it again did the trick.  Thanks!!

Re: Skype Home Unavailable

Hi Efmdllc,

I was wondering if you can maybe help me? I can't log in to Skype from my Nokia E5...It gives me the option of logging in as an existing user or creating a new account. So I click on "existing user" and then I type in my user name and pasword and it sort of goes into a "loading" screen and then nothing, it just goes back to the option between creating an account or logging in as axisting user screen. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Skype Home Unavailable

I had a similar problem and this is how I solved it.

1. Uninstall Skype Home ( I believe it's version 5.5) by going to control panel and doing it through windows.

2. Go to the internet to ask.com website and type in "Skype old versions".

3. Look for "where to download an old version of skype/supertintin Blog" and click on it.

4. Click on the website you see.

5. This will give you a listing of all the Skype versions old and new.

6. Pick your previous Skype version or any of the older versions. I chose version 4.2.0.187

7. Load it onto your computer and you'll be ready to Skype.

Re: Skype Home Unavailable

Same problem here. I tried uninstalling Skype and downloading the new version -- no help.

Clicking on the "online" status fixed everything, however!

Re: Skype Home Unavailable

So i'm in a  weird situation where I login and it takes me straight to my account. How do I get to the home page where I can add contacts and stuff. I'm looking at this account page and all I can do is adjust personal settings or buy credit. But all I want to do is get started on skype. Did I just miss the icon?
