I already have the Skype app on my iPhone and have used it without any problem to make calls to Spain and Chile. It is not clear to me what, if any, advantage there is to using Skype to go, particularly if there is a connection fee.

In your case there isn't really an advantage in using STG.
It's designed to facilitate customers who just have a regular cellphone and want to make Skype calls from it rather than be tied to their desktop/laptop.
