I have paid for an online number and unlimited phone calls for US (for a long time now). But recently when I call someone, in their caller ID appears 0 or 0000123456 or something very similar.
I have paid for a number and it is really important that people identify with my number. I have had people not answering because of this reason.

When callers are seeing what is described above, you need to go into your Skype account and set up the Caller ID.
By default, you get no personalized Caller ID when you make calls from your Skype account to telephones. You can log into your account on the Skype web site to manage that. If you have a US Online Number, you can make that be your Caller ID when you call telephones from Skype. I do that with my US Online Number, and it works nicely. Click on the "Caller ID" link in the Features column near the bottom of this page.
Not all Skype Online Numbers can be used for Caller ID. Of the numbers I have, only the numbers in the UK and USA can be used for Caller ID when I call from Skype. If you have multiple Skype Online Numbers eligible for use as Caller ID, you can select one as the default and have others serve as your Caller ID in those countries.
Hope that helps...

Thanks for the instructions on setting up the caller ID! I tried found the Caller ID link on the features page, set it up to point to my online number, and it worked swimmingly.
But, let it be known to the Skype deities that unless you have someone to walk you through setting up caller ID, there is no way to know that you have to set this up. If you login to your account and click the Online Number tab on "You Have" section, there is no mention of having to set this up or a link to set it up. Skype has a lot of great functionality, but if you have to go searching forums for how to set stuff up, your customers are going to become perturbed quickly. Perhaps you all could consider including all of the necessary components for setting up an online number (and caller ID, because isn't that half the reason we all are paying for the online number?) from your main account page and from the Preferences or Settings option on the desktop client.

Glad I was able to help.

Although most people don't want to go any further than the Skype program on a computer or app on a mobile phone or other device, logging into the Skype web page to view your account is a useful way to see what you have and what else may be available. Caller ID is something you see straight away.
As for what people use Online Numbers for, I think there are some who are not interested in using that number for Caller ID. They want a way to receive calls from telephones to them via Skype, and don't need to have that number used for anything else. Depending on where the Online Number is located, you may not be able to use it for Caller ID (i.e., my Australian and Mexican Online Numbers are not able to be used for Caller ID, but my US and UK numbers can be used that way).
Good luck!
