hey guys,
just be honest, we love you Skype, and it's support staff too, but don't love being in the dark about things....
If you own an iPhone, like me, then you should try using Talkatone, has a free number in America to receive incoming calls, ads pay for it I believe.
In Canada tho, same problem as Skype here...no Canada number to use. ![]()
No incomming calls.
I was GOING to give Skype 2.99 for service, then get a data only Internet plan for 5/month from one of Canada's carrier choices (BC Canada here):
-Bell (current provider, 50/month, per iPhone (x2), 10/month data only on my Samsung Galaxy Tablet 7" (1st gen, their new 2nd gen is fantastic, btw, 10" 2.0 model!)
-Rogers
-Fido (Rogers owns Fido, cheaper to BUY them entirely than lower rates for their own customers, take the deal or they whack yer family, lol)
-Virgin Mobile
-Mobilicity
-Telus
-Wind Mobile
I can't think of any other cell providers for the data only plans. One of these bastards has got to offer data only w/o NEEDING the phone number setup for, well, essentially, nothing....
If they refuse and say "you MUST use a phone plan" outright refuse and use another provider choice.
If anyone knows of these providers and who offers data only plans (cell Internet from their towers but no phone service tacked on, as it's now useless, imo)...PLEASE reply below with info about what you know of each provider for the rest of us.
I have 1 year left on this 3 year term. All of a sudden that 500 dollar iPhone @ 50/month for 36 months doesn't seem so cheap of a deal anymore. lol.
"but why can't we get reular 10-15/month cell plans Bell?"
Bell: "b/c we struck a deal /w Apple and you MUST have an Apple jacked up rated, cell phone plan for BASIC SERVICE with this "deal"...."
So that's where I stand atm. Owe like 300-400 bucks, phones will be back on next week but why not pay 0/month /w Talkatone and wifi?
...or pay 5/month for cell data net 2.99 for Skype???
I will also be checking out the other Skype competitors as I think a year is too much time for Skype to get their together on coming to a welcoming Canada.
I don't mind paying, just make the deal "fair". These 3rd world communications lines here in N America have GOT TO GO!!!!!
I'm sure Android aps got some wifi to voip phone line calling aps too. Anyone know any??? (after my contract is up, switching my iPhone 3gs for an Android smart phone, open source software ftw...not sure I wish to crack and break my phone over free aps Android naturally gives for free on it's phones)
Shame on Skype for keeping everyone in the dark, esp for so long. I hunted through many pages to get here only to find everyone asking the same question and no one standing up to be a leader in solutions....
Hope I've helped some. Hope others can also hlep my needs to!

Skype has had this issue with numbers in Canada since they began offering this service, and I have yet to see a legitimate response. Anyone know why we cannot get an online number in Canada?
Also, it would be very nice if skype would quit offering an online number EVERY TIME I START IT UP! annoying offering something that I want, but can't have....all the time!
Finally, does anyone know of anything comparable to skype so I can transfer to that program instead?
Frustrated Canadian Skype customer.
Chad

It's not solved. Why take credit on unanswered questions?
People know it's not in Canada.....after Skype ignores the 30 million people during the "go get an online number for 3 bucks" deal, it could easily list nations it doesn't list and why....so were not all lost in the forums wondering when the lights will come on in Canada....
The unsolved question still remains...
WHY is Canada not getting Skype incoming calls???
I mean quality over quantity for posts. If you got nothing to add, say nothing.
This challenge should be pressed on so that more people can give Skype money (while saving a hella bunch more!)
I worked out my cell bill would go from 50 bucks/month to 3 for Skype, 5 for a cell data plan w/o a phone plan alongside it.
50 down to 8 bucks.....I certainly want that Skype.
Anyone know the solution to GET Skype into Canada??????

Same question. A Canadian number is what I need. A U.S number simply won't work. When will the Canadian # be available. If it can't be available why not?
