Huge security glitch....

Ok i was talking to someone on skype ref work on friday, then today ive just had a friend asking why ive sent them lots of messages about work.

After seeing the messages this person can see my whole conversation i had with someone else on friday. Im using mac osx and running the latest version of skype. Does anyone have any answers to this? I shall not be using skype if this is going to continue as this is a huge security error.

Kind Regards

James

Re: Huge security glitch....

Hi James,
just so we understand it right:
- You've exchanged messages with contact A
- Then you see the same messages in the conversation window with contact B?

I don't fully understand where in Skype you see the messages duplicated.

Re: Huge security glitch....

Hi there,

Yes basically on friday i exchanged a conversation via the im function with skype with Contact A.

Then on saturday Contact B stated they had lots of pending messages from myself and contact A and even sent me the complete transcript of the conversation we had. What was even more strange is that the transcript they had only showed my name but didnt show the name of contact A just what they had said in response.

Contact B was definatly not added into the conversation and its strange that they apparently were using skype friday night and had no pending messages then on saturday using skype on their mobile they could view all transcripts between myself and contact A from the day before.

Hope that helps explain the issue. At the moment we are not using skype as we are concerned that this could happen again.

Re: Huge security glitch....

It concerns me as well, but I'm confident we can find the root cause.
Were you all running the latest Skype version?
Were you logged in on multiple devices (e.g. Windows, Mac + iPhone, Android)?
Can you ask contact B for a screenshot of the conversation (with the actual chat content blurred of course). Especially the conversation start date would be interesting. By entering the chat command "/get creator" in that conversation he can also check who started it.

Here is the screen shot from contact B, we are all using the latest version of skype. What seems bizare to me though is the dates, they dont match at all, and not all the conversation got through but some did as you can see. This is just some of the conversation. Contact B assures me that they had the complete conversation but have deleted it now but they did take this screen shot to send me if i needed it.

I look forward to your response.

Re: Huge security glitch....

Thanks a lot for your detailed feedback. It helps a lot and is highly appreciated. We are on to something now and would just like to confirm the Skype version(s) involved.
Can you please share the Skype for Mac version number (from the menu "Skype -> About")? I guess on Skype for Android you are using the most current.

Hi there,

I can confirm both myself and contact A are using the latest version of Mac osx and version 5.8.0.865 of Skype.

And yes Contact B is using the android version of skype and this is the latest version also.

Kind Regards

James
