I'm not sure of what the logic behind this procedure, but actual responses from users who tried it confirm that it works.
Please switch your status to offline for at least a minute, then switch back to online. Then change your privacy settings to see if they will stick this time.

Hi all. I've read the information here and have tried it on my wife's account. This has not worked at all. She is still sent IMs by persons that are not in her contact list. The only thing that I can think of would be her mobile application (IM+) may be messing with her settings.
Only thing not tried was going offline and then back online. In any case she's just going to start preaching to them in future if random people start IMing her.

iPad 2 Skype app user.
These spammers call me at ungodly hours (betweem 2-5 a.m.) as well as various times during the day. It has, more than once, ruined my sleep. It is incredibly annoying and attempts to block them on my PC hasn't apparently transfered to my iPad skype. Ofc, there is no such privacy settings on my iPad.
Please, if someone will find a solution aside from "turn off iPad at night" because of certain issues I need to be able to pick up "emergency calls".

Yes, I have been having the exact same problem for the past two days. I keep on getting porn spam with names like funwangs, which is, in reality, not that fun.
One spammer just requested a contact so I could block that, but I have an older Mac laptop, without a right click funtion, and the 'block' is greyed out in my toolbar too, so every other spammer has been able to either call me or message me, and they always have an 'offline' status. What gives?

I had been having this issue with random people trying to add me on skype and video calling me as well. I had the privacy settings set to contacts being able to call me and IM me. So far I've not had too many IMs from random people but I am still getting calls from random people yet and getting people that want to sex chat the odd time having disgusting pictures of their junk. I have reported most of these people that have managed to get through this privacy setting and the random people that try to add me but I don't see them stopping.
To take extra precautionary maesures, I only have my skype on when its necessary instead of leaving it on all day. Still it seems they keep coming. Is there going to be any possiblillity that Skype is going to prevent these sorts of things from happening or am I stuck with this problem.

That is all very nice and that is what I do on my PC.
However I have bought an iPad for my 82 year old mother.
Within 24 hours I had the recorded message from sys.ins.vo7 on her iPad.
It seems that the normal settings allowing me to block this user and report abuse are not available on the iPad (please correct me if I am wrong).
How do I see Skype to only accept calls from known users?
Thanks,

Hi this is to anyone but I recieved an IM today from someone who was looking for idle chat. My privacy / security is set so no IM's are received apart from people in my contacts list. How can this happen? I've recieved no contact request and the IM is no where to be found now. It did however, give the person's name. Is Skype Privacy / security not up to standard?
