I have a query about the cost of sending text message back to the UK when I am travelling. I shall be cruising on the Black Sea in September and am trying to find out whether it will be cheaper to use Skype to text home (arguably not, when the cost of connection from the ship is taken into consideration, but you never know!) or to use my regular service provider. However, I can't find anywhere to tell me what the costs are. Can someone help?

Hi,
In order to use Skype you need internet connection and if you are on a ship then using satellite connection might cost quite a bit ![]()
Once you have internet connection and Skype installed you can send SMS based on these rates:
http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/prices/sms-rates/#
For UK it's 0.099 GBP
It doesn't matter where you are located, price is always the same.
When you compare prices against your local phone service don't forget to check their roaming charges when using phone abroad. Due to high roaming charges I usually use Skype while travelling. ![]()
But of course your situation is bit different as internet connection is probably not very cheap on a ship.
