so i have a iphone serviced through US AT&T plan and my girlfriend has an iphone through US verizon plan. i am heading out of the country to indonesia while she'll still be hear in the states. If we both are in free wi-fi zones will we be able to video skype for free? we both also have unlimited data plans
with or service providers. any help or knowledge on this matter would be greatly appreciated

If you're both on free WiFi hotspots, you two will be able to have video chats for free via Skype.
For your AT&T iPhone in Indonesia, beware of using it on Indonesian mobile networks. Unless you go to the trouble of unlocking your iPhone and purchasing a new SIM in Indonesia, you will incur voice and/or data roaming charges from AT&T for using your iPhone on an Indonesian mobile network. You can go into your phone's Settings and disable Data Roaming, and just not use the phone for voice calls or SMS on an Indonesian mobile network, to avoid those charges. If you want to have the option of using your AT&T iPhone while in Indonesia, you should call AT&T's customer service to enable that before you leave the US.
