Will the CALL RECEIVER bear any additional charges?

Hi.

I understand that there have been several threads with a similar question asked, but the thing is that the answers provided were completely irrelevant.

What I personally want to know is, and possibly others as well: If I made a call through Skype from a computer to an overseas mobile phone number that hasn't had Skype installed, will the RECEIVER of the call have to pay as though 1) IT WAS A CALL MADE FROM OVERSEAS (implying that there are additional costs involved), or 2) A CALL MADE LOCALLY (implying there are no international roaming costs, etc.; the costs are exactly the same as it would cost the receiver if the call was made from a local phone number)?

Please understand that directing me to the international calling rates page isn't going to help me, since I want to know if the receiver is going to have to pay any additional costs for picking up the phone when I call from overseas, NOT THE CALLER.

Thank you.

Hello,

Firstly there are no "international" calls with Skype. All calls are "local" worldwide. This is because Skype calls travel va the internet and only "break" to PSTN/Cellular at a point close to the recipient's phone. This applies whether you are calling from the other side of the world or just calling your neighbor.

Thus calls to a cellphone (from anywhere) are "local". Skype does not charge to receive calls. If the cellphone carrier charges the owner (some do - some don't ) it depends upon the owner's Plan they have with the carrier. In any case the call (from anywhere) will be seen by the carrier as "local" and the receiving charge (if any) would only be a few cents.

Hope that clears it up for you.

Re: Will the CALL RECEIVER bear any additional charges?

Hi

My husband is working in Saudi Arabia at the moment.

We have had some horrendous mobile phone bills and have been told to use skype.

I have found a answer to a question I was going to ask, but would be grateful if you could clarify this.

1st question - If my husband has no skype credit in saudi arabia will it cost him to RECEIVE calls from myself? I will be calling from the UK.

2nd question- if he does have skype credit then if I call him from the UK will it use some of his skype credit to receive the call.

3rd question - what is the cost for my husband to call my mobile (while I am in the UK) while in saudi arabia using his skype credit?

Many thanks

A clarification... if you have Skype Credit, it is usable to call almost anywhere in the world, wherever you are able to log into Skype.  It does not matter if you purchase Skype Credit in one country (say, the UK) and use it somewhere else (say, Saudi Arabia).

For your 1st question...  If you call your husband using Skype to his Skype account name (NOT to his mobile number), there is no charge.  Calls from one Skype user to another Skype user using Skype are always free.  If you are calling his mobile phone in Saudi Arabia, that depends on the mobile carrier.  There may or may not be a charge for him to receive calls on his mobile phone.  If he is using a UK mobile phone in Saudi Arabia, it is likely that he is being charged to receive calls on the mobile phone (international roaming rates). If he has a Saudi mobile phone, he would have to consult with the Saudi carrier about any charges for incoming calls.

Second question... If you use Skype Credit to place the call to his mobile phone, then you will use some of that Skype Credit.  You can click on "Pay As You Go" below to see the rates country by country.  if he has a Saudi mobile phone number that you are calling, the rates with Skype are 15.1p/minute, plus a connection fee per call.  If he has a UK mobile phone that you are calling with Skype, those rates are 14.9p/minute, plus the connection fee.  Note that using a UK mobile phone in Saudi Arabia will also incur roaming charges from the UK mobile carrier, not from Skype.

Third question... If your husband uses Skype to call your mobile phone in the UK, it would cost 14.9p/minute, plus a connection fee per call.  Remember that Skype's rates are only concerned with the destination of the call.  Your location, wherever you are using Skype, has no bearing on the rates.

Re: Will the CALL RECEIVER bear any additional charges?

Hi i have a related question - my partner is currently in Greenland - I am in the UK. She has both a UK mobile (cellphone) and a Greenland one. It costs me more to call the Greenland one on Skype than the UK one, but what i am unclear on is whether there is any cost to her depending on which number i call? In other words does it cost HER more to get Skype calls from me on her mobile/cellphone if i call her UK phone rather than her Greenland one?

Her UK mobile operator would normally charge her for receiving a call while she was in Greenland, because it's connectingthrogh the local exchange, so will she be charged for getting a Skype call in the same way?

thanks

It will probably cost your partner more to receive calls on her UK mobile phone in Greenland, since that would incur charges at roaming rates for using her mobile phone outside the UK.  Your calls from Skype to her UK mobile number would be no different than someone in the UK calling from a landline or mobile number to her mobile while in Greenland - incurring roaming charges.
