I just purchased a new Samsung 51" smart TV (PN51E550D1FXZA). When I try to sign in on the Skype app, the app gets stuck at "Signing In...".

I am sorry to hear you are having problems with your Samsung TV.
I have a few questions to help understand the problem you are having:
1. Are you connected to the internet via wifi or cable?
2. Do your other applications work properly?
3. Can you login with another Skype account?
4. Which camera are you using?
I'm having exactly the same problem. I can log on to Skype with two other accounts so I have confirmed the internet connect, etc. is working.
When I try logon with the account linked to this form member I get the 'Signing in...' message but no further. If I enter an incorrect password I get a message stating an invalid password has been used.
I have tried adding gender and age information to the account but this did not fix the issue.
You'll need a Samsung 2012 camera to use Skype on your TV. The TV cameras are specifically designed with microphones inside to pickup sound from further away and video which has been optimized for your TV. Yes, the camera is the reason you cannot sign in.

I am sorry but i do not agree with the theory that not having a webcam is a problem with singing in. I have the same problem with my samsung smart tv withour webcam. I could not log in to skype with my account on two different tvs [one with camera one without]. It didnt work! so i decided to try and create some other account and that logging in went quicly and there were no problems!.
I've read that it might not work when its working on some other platforms.devices. Again i switched off all devices that use my skype account and that still didnt help. So whats wrong with it?
Please help its very irritating. I dont want to change my skype account with all my friends just because of it.

As noted in this post, there is a temporary fix while we resolve the issue:
As a temporary workaround please login to your web profile page and enter date of birth and gender information there.

I manage to do that just by completing my profile with language and date of birth.
Apparently Skype on TV needs more information to start working then on computer.
