Ok.  Hold the Windows key and type r.  In the box that comes up type %appdata%\Skype <enter>.  Find the folder with your Skype name and open it.  Delete file main.db.   Or...if there's any chance you might change your mind, rename that file to something like main.old.

Done.

Re: How do you delete conversations?

What type device are you using?  Mac?  Windows PC?  Mobile?

Do you want to delete all chats or just a specifc one?

Re: How do you delete conversations?

I too am having a problem with an inability to erase old IMs.  My settings are no history and I have attempted to clear history in tools locations.  I followed your directions below and erased the main.db file but all that accomplished was to remove the photos of my contacts.  IM's are still visible.

I am on a PC running windows 7

Re: How do you delete conversations?

Are you sure you deleted the main.db file in the folder with the Skype name you're trying to clear?  That's the only place IM's are stored.

Re: How do you delete conversations?

I didn't realize main.db was in two folders.  Local and Roaming.  I had erased local, assuming that was the correct one on my computer, and just now I erased roaming.  That cleared the messages, many thanks.   One final message still lingers and it is a posting that I made, that won't go away but is not a big deal.

Will I have to do this all the time?  If yes what's the point of the option settings?

Re: How do you delete conversations?

You should not have to do it all the time.  The never option should work, as should the Delete History button.

Click on Help > About Skype.  If the version you see isn't 5.8.0.156, I suggest you update via this link:  http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-full

If the problem still persists, resest your Skype configuation files via this procedure:

Quit Skype.  Hold the Windows key and type r.  In the box that comes up type %appdata% <enter>.  Scroll down to find the \Skype folder and rename it something like \Skype_old.  Restart Skype.

Note:  Renaming the Skype folder will move IM and call history to the renamed folder.  They can be recovered with a few extra steps.
