Re: Group video on a Samsung SmartTV

If the case of the Skype enabled group video calls is not currently available, it should be made clear on the Skype website that this feature does not exist at this time.    My family just purchased a new Skype enabled HD TV, and I expected to be able to do the group video calls (big reason why we bought the Samsung 46" screen).    I had to learn the hard way...buying the premium group call feature, but not seeing that function transferred when I relaunched the big screen TV version of Skype.    Very disappointed!!

I'm aware (from this user thread) that engineering is trying to solve this issue, so I hope it happens soon.    Skype would not like to be overshadowed by Google Plus, especially if they have a solution for big screen TVs with group chat.    In my opinion, Skype would lose serious market share from this lack of capability.

Re: Group video on a Samsung SmartTV

It is urgent to find a solution to this problem. Many have bought smartTV just to be able to conduct video meetings. Luckily I was, almost by chance, aware of the problem, as I stood in the store to buy. Otherwise I would have felt cheated.

Re: Group video on a Samsung SmartTV

Hi Shortly,

We are also urgently waiting for this feature as well.  We bought Samsung 55 inch Smart TVs (UN55ES7000F and UN55ES7100F) for many of the meeting rooms here.  We initially wanted to use them as front projector replacements but I talked the owners into buying smart TVs so we could run Skype (along with Samsung QWERTY keyboards, the Samsung web cams, the Samsung wall mounts, and dedicated LAN and power behind the TV for a seamless install).  So far the Skype point-to-point calls work well.  Using the TVs as front projector replacements also works well.  The Smart TVs ($$$) have replaced much of our regular use of our tradition Polycom videoconferencing gear ($$$$$).  We still need to use the Polycoms for multi-point of group calls.  It would be preferable to be able to do group chat from the TVs.

We have Skype 2.12061.  How do we get in touch with Skype to request group video calls from the TVs?

Regards,

Aaron

Re: Group video on a Samsung SmartTV

Hi Shorty,

Any update on whether the group video chat option has been made available on smart tvs yet? I do not believe that this is a hardware limitation as Google Hangouts work on phones and tablets with minimal hardware. Also, please make this evident during for premium registration that group chat is available ONLY for PCs/MACs.

Re: Group video on a Samsung SmartTV

I did read on the FAQ's that the video feature on the Smarttv is not yet supported on Skype, but the audio is. Is this supported with an upgrade to Premium?
