Video Calling on Symbian^3?

Well as this is the new Skype community....lets get this old chestnut going again.

Please can you bring video calling to the next version of Skype for Symbian^3 devices. It is cool that you have just released this feature for Android....but us Nokia owners want the feature too and surely it must be possible?

If you are already working on this, I would be happy to test any beta?

Re: Video Calling on Symbian^3?

i have to submit myself to the, until now unlistened, request to have videocalls on symbian devices.  iphones and android have it, what about giving this feature also to your "sister" Nokia?

Re: Video Calling on Symbian^3?

The morons here do not give a crap.  When the N8 was released, a video version was due out in January?  Of 2011!!! Remember that you skypewods!!! They sure as crap released video versions for other phones that came after the N8.  I'm glad MS bought this POS company.  I hope they fire every individual in R&D!

Re: Video Calling on Symbian^3?

I also want to subscribe to this topic to make skype aware that a lot of persons want video-calls to symbian devices, not only to Symbian 3, but to all symbian cell phones capable of making video-calls.

Recently I purchased a Nokia E72, hoping to make skype video-calls from it. But to my surprise, that was not available. Then, I started researching the subject and found out that Fring was able to make skype video-calls but skype blocked that feature, and video call was no longer available, which is a shame.

A year has passed since this has happened, which in my opinion it would be more than enough time to develop a new version to accomodate video-calls. If skype blocked video calls using Fring, then they should have developed an alternative to the feature they blocked and was benefiting skype users. By blocking fring without giving an alternative, skype completely ignored skype users and only took into consideration monetary gains, which in business is not the only thing companies should look at. Respect for the costumers is an important part of it.

During my research to this topic I also found out that iphone users are able to make video-calls using skype, and more recently android users are also able to make video-calls using skype.

And what about symbian users????

This makes me feel very disappointed with skype...

If skype is launching a new symbian version soon, that allows video-calls, please let us know, so that we can know for sure that skype did not forget about symbian users, otherwise I think skype will loose (or already lost) the symbian costumers respect and the actual costumers.

Best regards,

A disapointed skype user.

Re: Video Calling on Symbian^3?

Skype is a company with great human resources, therefore i don't think that video call feature can't be implemented for the Symbian OS. I think that you have exclusivity contract terms for some other companies like Apple or Google which might fill your accounts even more, so the Symbian smartphone users, like me, have to wait until the contract comes to a deadline. It's a pity.

Re: Video Calling on Symbian^3?

Well I have to add my voice here..

I have a Nokia N82 which has Symbian s60 I think it is. I am reluctant to change because I have a few foreign dictionaries in Symbian which I much like, like the camera and I suppose it's made in Finland and there's a bit of European loyalty.

Skype had previously worked poorly on the phone. I thought it was the country blocking it or the CPU not being good enough. But I bought a new data pack from the mobile company and have the highest download rate now. ...and skype works amazingly on it!! Been ringing people all over the world on the phones from skype on my phone.

But.. the phone has a camera on the front. I have only ever used it on a standard video call, which is completely out of fashion and never really caught on.

SADLY I must agree they've probably done a deal to not develop it further to keep the iphone's exclusivity as "the only one that can do video skype calls".

Well, I know I own an old product, but I'd PAY MONEY for the skype video calling for symbian software.. If you want a vintage car, expect the extra expenses of engine rebuilds and hard-to-get spare parts. I wonder if the phone would support it with it's processor..

Anyway would love to see the symbian software out and dispense with whatever bull**bleep** is preventing it..
