Thanks for being wonderful

I receive an email from Skype:

"As a thank you for using Skype, we'd like to give you a Skype-ready cordless phone worth £50 as a gift. It's just our small way of saying thanks a lot and all you'll need to pay is £3 for shipping.

So, what's this special gift all about? The Skype-ready cordless phone lets you use Skype to make calls to landlines and mobiles, as well as free Skype-to-Skype calls, anywhere in the house. We love it and we think you'll love it too."

I order it up - pay the shipping - and then spend some hours attempting to get it to work.

All it replies is "failed to connect to server" when I attempt to sign in. All my other devices work on the same connection.

When I try to get support from Skype I am told "the phone is incorrectly configured - you have to get support from GE - We do not supply or support hardware"

Well Skype, you did give me this phone - you gave it as a "thank-you".

Some "thank-you" - just a waste of my time.

Thanks for being wonderful!

Re: Thanks for being wonderful

Hi,

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

It sounds like your 'phone is not connecting to the network properly. Can you confirm that it is getting a IP address on your network? (See page 56 of the manual: http://www.gephones.com/docs/31591-user-guide-english-f.pdf)

Re: Thanks for being wonderful

Hi Simon,

Many thanks for coming back to me

I have checked Setting, Network.

TCP/IP ticked

Original setting was DHCP enabled but on Information the IP address was 0.0.0.0

I tried resetting network and base - it says successful ; reset base - "system is resetting" then "starting up" - no joy.

I tried Static IP - set 192.168.0.12 for Sky , It does seem to connect.

Subnet mask 255.255.255.0; gateway & primary dns 192.168.0.1;

When I attempt to sign in after a delay I get Connected then "Sign In failed".

Second & subsequent attempts give "Failed to connect to server" - same as when selected dhcp.

So reset network & base again - back to dhcp ....

The lights beside the network cable - left is amber, right is intermittent flash of green.

Tried different cables - same result Tried different hub - same.

Cannot find anything in manual about what these lights signify but I'm guessing the base is not connecting to the ethernet.

Hope that allows a diagnosis - Can't think of anything else to try!

Re: Thanks for being wonderful

hmm nothing obvious.

Can I suggest that you contact GE support (link is at http://www.gephones.com/support/contact-us/ ) as I may have missed something.

In parallel I will look into it further.

Thanks,

/Simon

Re: Thanks for being wonderful

I've looked into it and it appears your 'phone was supplied/fulfilled by eBuyNow. It maybe quicker to contact them in the first instance (support@ebuynow.com or creating a support ticket by completing the form in http://www.ebuynow.info/en/contact/).

Once you have a ticket number please post it here or pm it to me.

Thanks,

Re: Thanks for being wonderful

Thanks Simon,

I have contacted both.

Ebuynow have said:

"Thank you for contacting eBuyNow with your query. We are sorry to know you are having problems with your GE Phone. Please visit http://www.gephones.com/support/contact-us/ for technical support regarding your "digital cordless expandable telephone with Skype. If GE are unable to assist you, please contact us back and we will promptly help resolve your issue. " I have PMed ticket no.

GE have not replied as yet.

I suspect they will suggest post back to Hong Kong ... but wonder if it is worth the time & trouble.

Re: Thanks for being wonderful

The phone has just allowed sign-in.

Cannot see any change or reason for it to suddenly work.

All lights & settings still the same as is the network

Will just have to observe & test & hope it stays on.
