Re: Skype on BlackBerry 9900

Its really disheartening to say that Skype is not available onBlackberry.

I have Blackberry Bold 9780 and it doesn't support Skype which is very bad news for me.

Lets pray that Skype and Blackberry make some agreement to save their customers otherwise they will loose them.

Re: Skype on BlackBerry 9900

Hi,

as you have probably seen all around this forum (and others), Skype has no app for BB unless you're Verizon customer in the US or 3 customer in UK. We have all been asking, screaming, begging,... but since the first announcement from Skype (way back in 2008-2009), there is only complete silence from their side!!

We can only guess why that is, but we all would prefer an official statement from Skype. However, this is, in my opinion, just wishfull thinking.

Greetz,

Re: Skype on BlackBerry 9900

With the treatment from skype & three UK, I don't like to be fair because they haven't been honest with customers.  However I still think its worth a mention that many of the phones offered by three particularly the older models which used the java skype didn't use proper voip.

It would use partial data connection to communicate who your trying call & the 3g voice network handles the call while forwarding it.  If the past you could have hidden & exited skype on your handset (not anymore though) what happened was the skype call would be received by three's data network & forward the call to your phone number while three handles and accepts the data to voice network.

For those screaming out for skype, I suggest your all check out Fring to see if it works on your phones.  It has been a useful alternative.

Honestly, I think skype have been lazy to do the work, companies like fring were offering similar & even allowed skype customers to use their software but some issue between them, Personally I think skype was scared of the competition & stopped it.

Re: Skype on BlackBerry 9900

Who is Skype "in bed with" - another corporation that does not care about the "little guy" - the end user, BUT we end users should stand together and bring them to their knees. I put blame on both Skype and BlackBerry!

Come on you guys - can't we just get along..... for the sake of your clients!

Re: Skype on BlackBerry 9900

Can some recommend something else then Skype ?
I use it quite a lot, paying at least 50 Euro per month, and then they not want to make a version for BB !

What idiots are they ???
Now they are owned by Microsoft can we also expect major break downs, as they had never made a product that was problem free so far !

Already the first week Microsoft had told they want to buy Skype it started !
So no Skype on BlackBerry, then we have to lay our money somewhere else !

Re: Skype on BlackBerry 9900

I use Truphone on BB and it works well on VOIP except that it is not a truly roaming service, so it works great in the UK but when abroad.........

The cost is small as it goes to landlines but at least it is an option.

Like everyone else I have been waiting for BB and Skype to sort this out.
