Re: Skype App for Windows Phone 7 Mango

I have been waiting for a Skype app for Windows Phone 7 for what feels like forever!

I emailed Skype support  and they replyed this:

Hello Luke,

Thank you for contacting Skype Customer Service.

We understand your concern regarding the availability of the Skype application on Windows mobiles. We will be more than happy to look into this for you.

We reviewed the details you have provided and unfortunately, the Skype for Windows Mobile application is no longer available for download from our site. We’ve chosen to withdraw Skype for Windows Mobile because we want to offer our new customers an improved mobile experience – much like the version that has proved so popular on the iPhone, and is now available on Symbian handsets. Our focus is on providing a rich user experience that allows you to enjoy free Skype-to-Skype and low cost calls as easily on the move as you do at your desktop.

You can check our blogs for the latest exciting developments:

http://share.skype.com/sites/en

What we can do is to forward this matter on to our development team who may consider this in the future.

Please be patient while we work to make Skype even better.

We hope you found this answer helpful. Should you need any further assistance or have additional questions please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Best regards,

Maria Charmaigne L.

Re: Skype App for Windows Phone 7 Mango

I have to agree with the original poster, this is stupid, MS owns these freaking tards and they still can't make a **bleep** app for WP7. Its not like there is an issue with APIs or anything anymore thanks to WP7.5.  It is the obtuseness of idiot providers like skype that is holding WP7 back thanks to their own ingrained prejudices.  I can't beleive MS has not simply started clearing house of these idiots to get a product out that is not so obviously Apple slanted.

Either that or MS is simply so incompetent that they think everyone will wait until they are ready, get your business together or by the time you are done no one will care.

Re: Skype App for Windows Phone 7 Mango

I agree with you 100% the fact that I have to come and set down and turn my laptop on to make skype call instead of using my wp7 device is annoying. I mean if there is skype for wp7 my laptop probably will get dusty. it already is, it is taking them forever to develop the app on the new windows phone bare in mind windows phone platform is available on many devices specially the new Nokia Lumnia 800!!! lets hope the mext update will be skype integrated!!!

Re: Skype App for Windows Phone 7 Mango

Not much more to say, WP7 is a great platform which is going down. Why? All the great apps which are on other phones long long time ago are not available for WP7.
Even great features from WinMo 6.5 are killed (SMS sync with Exchange, detailed call list with talk time, Background pics and customization of how things look, and many many more)
I've been using WinMo/WP platform for full 6 years now, and it seems like MS in not listening to users anymore

Re: Skype App for Windows Phone 7 Mango

To anyone that got confused by the response from Skype Customer Service:

The product the CS rep was referring to was the OLD Skype for Windows MOBILE, not for Windows PHONE.  There is a huge difference... they are entirely different and incompatible products.  Unfortunately, the CS rep didn't seem to know that.  Chalk a win up for Microsoft's naming conventions.

All we know so far is that a Skype beta for WP7 was demonstrated in early 2011, and they said it would be coming "in the fall" after Mango shipped.  Back in September we received additional information that Skype was "still coming" for WP7.  Fall is nearly has nearly passed, so I'm guessing that timeline has probably slipped.  But the last official word is that a version of Skype for Windows Phone 7.5 is in development and will be released.  We just don't know when, or even what it is really going to be.

We've seen leaks that there may be some integration with the base Windows Phone 7 interface, but also heard contrary information that Skype will not be integrated in the same way that Live Messenger or Facebook Chat are into WP's Messaging app.  That would be a shame if it's true, but it seems unlikely given that MS now owns Skype.

Hopefully we'll get official word from someone about when we can expect the product (or even confirmation that it has been delayed) so we're not left in the dark.  Every day that goes by when I don't have Skype on my phone means I'm being shunned more and more by my coworkers for not being accessible when I'm away from a computer.

Re: Skype App for Windows Phone 7 Mango

SEE how Microsoft and Skype are treating the customers. MS will do the same in future for us. Therefore it is safe to move to other more dynamic brands to cope up with the fast developments. Now Skype also part of MS means the end of coping with the technology for Skype as well (may be due to months long decision making system of MS) therefore safer to move Tango or other options.... Don't stick with the SLOW MOVING Dinosaurs ....

Re: Skype App for Windows Phone 7 Mango

My question is Windows 7.5 VoIP capable? Is that the problem? There are no VoIP Apps in WM have you noticed! Incredible no VoIP in the OS! Where do they live. Seems WM is XIX OS!

Re: Skype App for Windows Phone 7 Mango

What about Tango?  Isn't that VoIP?  Also the apps that support Vonage.
