Skype App for Windows Phone 7 Mango

Let me get this straight:  Skype has apps for iOS, Android, Symbian (which I have never even seen in use in the US), but not for Windows Phone 7.  That makes sense because Skype is owned by Apple, oh wait I mean Google, oh wait I mean MICROSOFT!!!! Granted the merger just "officially" closed, but it has been in the works for months.  Why has Skype developed an app for Microsoft's competitor's platforms and ignored the mobile platform designed by it's own parent company? Good grief, this is a CASE STUDY in how not to do business!!

Ok, enough ranting for now.  Please hear me out:

Skype - you've got a great product with an insane amount of potential.  By insane potential I mean the potential to evenutally lure the entire world away from traditional phone companies and towards your product.  How does that sound to you?

Microsoft - I have owned not 1, but 2 iPhones and loved almost everything about them (including their Skype app).  That said, I recently had the opportunity to use a Windows Phone 7 theme on my current phone (a Blackberry), and knew within 5 minutes that Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 OS is clearly superior to iOS.  The next day, I ordered a Windows Phone 7 device instead of the new iPhone 4S that I had been waiting months for.  If thats not a clear indication of the potential of Windows Phone 7, I don't know what is.  Given that Microsoft was in the late stages of it's Skype acquisition, I assumed (naively, apparently) that there was a Skype app for Windows Phone 7.  Get it together and get this app out there now - even if it's not perfect.  Mango is a huge improvement to Windows Phone 7, but a Skype app is vital to it's success.

I'd greatly appreciate a response from Skype and/or Microsoft to this post.  I would like a specific date (not "soon" or "near future") when the Skype app will be available.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Sincerely,

Window's Phone 7's Newest Fan

Re: Skype App for Windows Phone 7 Mango

The guy at the phone store said that Skype for Windows 7 Phone has been cancelled because of some patent problems and that Microsoft wants everyone to buy Droids instead -- I'm not sure where he got the information -- anyway, he said Skype works fine on Droids and iPhones, and that Microsoft was planning to sell Skype to one of those outfits, and that Microsoft wanted to get out of the cellphone business all together because the business is too complicated to figure out -- he also said that Microsoft might even sunset Skype because of the hassles with trying figure out how it works -- I'm not sure what's happening, but I do know that Skype doesn't work on my Mango-enabled Windows 7 Phone -- that fact speaks volumes about the future of Skype for Windows 7 Phone...

You could have not said it better.

Come on with this app and many folks will do away with IPhone.

Win.7 phone is just great to be without this app.

We cannot wait guys. Come on!!!

Re: Skype App for Windows Phone 7 Mango

I happily gave up my lovely HTC Desire for Samsung Omnia 7.

The UI looks smooth and almost popping out. The live tiles are a pleasure.

However, I really miss many of the android apps and games ( yes XBOX Live games still cannot match android).

One App that I miss the most is skype and it pains to know that both WP7 and Skype are owned by MS.

Comeon guys, make WP7 better. Give us skype.

[ Edited ]

actually since microsoft made C# and made so many great coding languages i think it is actually easier to make apps on WP7 than on iphone
pluuuuuus the fact that
MICTOSOFT BOUGHT SKYPE FOR 7 BILLION DOLLARS ARE YOUUUU KIDDDINGG MEEEE

its freeeeee, they were actually giving money to you , they just said here your company will get us what 250,000$ a year, take 7 billion
and you still cant make an app for their phones:speechless:
are you kidding me??
work harder, iphone and android have viber as their main voip
if you get a great program FAST you can be the most popular voip for WP7 dont wait till viber makes its own version

Re: Skype App for Windows Phone 7 Mango

I agree I bought WP7 when it FIRST came out. Most of the information was all yeah we are going to catch up really fast. Nothing for a year then Mango which is AWESOME so I forgave and bought another Windows Phone. STILL to SKYPE!! I dont really mind but they never answer these questions is amazing that they stay in business but then smucks liek me keep coming back for more!

I want Skype and my phone will be perfect but I can wait but please just tell me when. I dont need video chat just voip, I use Skype as my main business line and it works great but it also means I cant use Tango or another system I need Skype and I keep making the mistake of thinking that as MS bought it and as the showed it at MIX2011 in April and said fall release that I would have it but still nothing and no updates is so frustrating being an MS fanboy grrrr /rant
