Today, we’re excited to announce Skype and Lync customers around the world are now able to connect with each other from across these platforms. With Lync-Skype connectivity, Skype users will now be able to reach a broader network of colleagues, partners and customers who are using Lync, Microsoft’s unified communications platform, connecting them into organizations of all sizes.

Last week, the Skype community team jetted off to San Francisco, to participate in the Lithium Network Conference (LiNC) – an event which included 400+ global companies and showcased a number of special Online communities – we are so proud to be one of them.

You might have seen my recent tips on getting the most out of Skype while spending a few months abroad. Today I’ve got a few more tips for travelers, but this time I’m focusing on frequent flyers.

Skype means different things to different people, but how you use Skype from one day to another can also change. For example, students who study in a far off country for a time find that suddenly Skype becomes a way of catching up with loved ones who they might be used to seeing daily.

Thomas Edison is credited as coining the word “Hello” as a way to start a phone call. But every now and then I hear friends and family starting a Skype call with “Can you hear me?” instead. I’d like to give you the same tips I give them for troubleshooting audio issues on Skype calls.

I borrowed the catch phrase above from Monty Python because instead of offering tips and tricks on how to use Skype, as I normally do, I’m taking a moment to tell you a bit about someone I work with at Skype.

After a long day at work, many people can’t wait to get away from their computers, if only for a little while. I’m not like that though, I like to unwind in my spare time by gaming. Though my first gaming experience was on a NES at the tender age of 5, my one true love has always been PC gaming.

Group chats are great for keeping everyone updated on the latest goings on. At work I use group chats for everything, from introducing people with a shared interest, to planning where to go for lunch.

As this is my first post of 2013, let me wish you all the best for the year ahead. 2012 was an exciting year here at Skype and we’re planning on bringing you even more great stuff in 2013.

I’d like to finish what I started in December with one more set of audio and video tips for getting the best quality out of your Skype calls.

Over the past year the Skype community has grown exponentially and as a result of your amazing contributions and participation we have outgrown the existing rank structure. This means that the ranks you see on the community today such as: Visitor, Contributor and Advisor will be retired and be updated with shiny brand new ones on January 28th.

Please join us in celebrating the 9th anniversary of the first public version of Skype released.

I recall signing up for my account 8 1/2 years ago when I was looking for an alternative for in game communication when flying virtual airplanes. I was baffled by Skype's audio quality back then which was superior to all the other available voice communication applications back then. In the meantime this quality got even better and the addition of video calling helped me connect even closer with my friends near and far.

A general advice: Skype will never call you or send you a chat message to inform you about a security incident. So you can safely assume that all such calls or chat messages are scam attempts to be ignored.

Over the past months we have heard continued feedback on using Bluetooth devices together with Skype for iOS and Skype for Android. While some users can perform Skype calls without any issues others can't even get the headset to be recognized within the app.

This week marks the release of two new apps from the Skype family:

1. First and foremost the very first beta of Skype for Windows Phone 
2. GroupMe brings free private and group messaging to Windows Phone

Today we have released Skype 3.7 for iPhone and iPad.

New Features and Enhancements:

• New dialpad UI
• Edited message indicator
• Improved stability



We have released a new version of Skype for Android.

The main efforts on this release have gone to improving the calling experience and enabling video calling for the Samsung Epic 4G Touch.
