transferring contacts from lower version to updated version

If I want to update my version from 5.4 to 5.5 (beta), do I have to completely uninstall? and if so, is there a way to transfer my contacts?

No need.  Simply install, and the new version will overwrite the old version.

i have tried installing the newer version but it doesnt install or update. do i need to erase my older versions of skype and remove them from my hard drive or something? it just doesnt update. i have 5.4 and want to use 5.5 beta. when i replace the new version to the older one, and then open it, it is still v5.4.
