Skipe not working on my mac HELP

Went on line, find my account that I have used on a PC, Added 10,- to my account 

THan I went on my Mac to download the software, but I cannot get it to work . On my mac I can get to my account but the application is not opening skipe

What can I do

I cannot make contact with my favorites.  Everyone shows up as "offline" when they are not.  Message says "cannot make contact."  This has been going on for four days now, and I am unable to use Skype at all.  Please help.

I have been unable to open skipe in spite of proper user name and passward. I can not even get the skipe logo on the dock.Please tell me what to do.
