Move from PC to MAC via Dropbox

Okay, so here is what I want to do:

1. Move my main skype db file to dropbox from my old pc (this part I can handle)

2. Install Skype on my new MAC and Point it at Dropbox so it uses my old db files as it's starting point

So how do I do the second part? How do I get skype on my laptop to look at dropbox for it's db source rather than locally?

Hi,

Well, Windows and Mac OS files are quite different.
So, why not to simply launch Skype for Mac OS on your Mac and then type your credentials in Welcome window fields ?

So doing, history could be missing however.

Re: Move from PC to MAC via Dropbox

That's exactly right, the history would be lost. It would only update to a certain point then my main db file would reside on my old pc.

So are you saying htat hte fundamental db file, the main file that holds the history can't run on a mac? I understand that the application files themselves are mac based, sure. But I'm referring to the db of all my history - is that also Mac based?

Re: Move from PC to MAC via Dropbox

Here is even a post I just found via google indicating this is possible:

But I want to put my history on dropbox, and point skype there...

No, there is nothing in the Dropbox help page that addresses this question.

Re: Move from PC to MAC via Dropbox

Boo!!!!

Should I just assume that this is not possible? You can't run Skype on a Mac
Using Dropbox as the main db storage point? If so well...not cool!

Re: Move from PC to MAC via Dropbox

You're going to keep using the DB file on windows and on mac? You're not explaining what you want to do very clearly...

However, you can use symbolic links on mac and windows to do what you're looking for (different approaches for each OS though)
