Export Contacts

It used to be possible to export your contacts from Skype as a .csv file.

I am now using Skype 5.3.0 on Mac. OS 10.7.2. There seems to be no way of exporting my contacts. Does anyone know how to export contacts in this version? Failing that, will contact export be implemented in a version in the near future?

Off to write down all my SkypeOut numbers by hand...

Re: Export Contacts

You posted in Jan 2012: I am now using Skype 5.3.0 on Mac. OS 10.7.2. There seems to be no way of exporting my contacts. Does anyone know how to export contacts in this version? Failing that, will contact export be implemented in a version in the near future?

I reply in Feb 2012: I think there is no way. I have searched and searched for a way.

I am using 2.8 on a Macbook. I didnt like 5.3 so I removed and replaced it. My contacts stayed the same, only the form-frame changed.

I've been searching online. I am intending to try from my android. If that fails I will open skype on a Windows machine and see if that client will work.

Skype is now owned by Microsoft. There are a lot of flaws that have been complained about for a long time. I have read this in the forums. There's a big thread in Skype Mac forum in this same support network from those who are unhappy with the version you are using. You can find 2.8 online if you want to try it. You lose the gynormous pictures by each contact and things fit in much better.

The support staff does not answer questions in the forums afaik (ok I've seen some but might that be before MS?). The support staff does not reply to questions sent to them.

I would expect no cooperation from MS-Skype. They are hoarding their goodies. I suggest that you learn about Google Voice. I am. (Even though I've been paying for Skype-Out and it works well. I don't like my information being cadged up from me. It's a moral gap similar but not identical to Facebook.)

I'm just doing the best I can to help the world be a better place.

Re: Export Contacts

bumping this, as i'm running 6.0.0.2968 and there is still not a way to export contacts ON A MAC. the linked eHow is for PC only, as under contacts the menu options are different. trying to dig through the library and find the contacts file led to zero success...

Re: Export Contacts

I'm having the same problem.  On Skype 6, newest version on Mac there is no "advanced" tab under the contacts menu nor is there any other way I've been able to find to do so.  Under the conversations menu I see a "send contacts" choice but I am unable to select it.

If anyone knows how to solve this issue it would be most helpful.  I'm trying to export my Skype contacts to address book.  Thank you.

Re: Export Contacts

There is "sort of" a way to do this with Skype on Mac OS X, depending on what you are trying to accomplish. I am using Skype 6 on Mac OS X. I wanted to have a second Skype ID that I could use while on the road -- and wanted to have the same set of contacts for the new Skype ID.

Here is how to do it:

1. Right click on the Skype ID you want to send the list of contacts to.

2. Choose "Send Contacts...".

3. A dialogue box pops up.  Select all the contacts you want to send the list of contacts to.

4. Press the "Send" button.

The "receiving" Skype ID will pop up a dialogue box for each new contact it receives asking if they want to add that contact (and will send a corresponding message to the one you add).
