[Topic last reviewed for actuality 3rd July 2014]

Should you be using using Skype on OS X Mavericks and you encounter crashes during video calls or screen sharing please check this topic: "Video call/screen share crashing on OS X Mavericks"

Furthermore we have investigated reports of Skype for Mac:

  1. crashing on start
  2. only showing the app icon bouncing indefinitely in the dock
  3. crashing on file transfer

Investigation by our engineers revealed that most of the time external applications are causing this.

If you see above behavior please check if you are using one of these applications:

  • Flavours app on OS X "Yosemite" developer preview

    - Solution: None right now. Uninstall Flavours until developers provides an update.

  • ecamm Call Recorder for Skype

    - Solution: Please update Call Recorder

  • ecamm iGlasses

  • ecamm iMage (Outdated software)

    - Check if you have it by checking the existence of
    /Library/InputManagers/Ecamm/iMagePlugin.plugin
    - Solution: Uninstall by deleting above file
    - See also iMage support page

  • macam (Outdated software not compatible with Lion and Mountain Lion any more)

    ~/Library/QuickTime/macam.component

    - See also macam support page

  • ApplicationEnhancer (Outdated software from 2010 that might have been installed without your knowledge bundled with other software)

    - Check if you have it by checking if the following file is present:
    /Library/Frameworks/ApplicationEnhancer.framework
    - Solution: uninstall instructions here

  • SCFinderPlugin (Outdated software from 2010)

    - Check if you have it by checking the existence of
    /Library/Contextual Menu Items/SCFinderPlugin.plugin

  • Sonix SN9C201 WebCam (Outdated software from 2007)

    - Check if you have it by checking the existence of
    /Library/QuickTime/Sonix SN9C201 WebCam.component
    - Solution: Uninstall by deleting above file

  • OSS 3D Plugin (Outdated software from 2007)
