Same here this happens on Ubuntu 12.04 under Unity and Cinnamon.

Options->Chat

This is still the same on Skype 4.0 on Linux Mint 12 / Cinnamon.

Not only does the window pop up, it also takes focus, so anything you are typing elsewhere appears in the Skype message window.

It doesn't matter whether I use the new grouped chat window interface or the old single window per chat interface.

Can we please get a fix for this.

I received an update for Skype to version 4.0.0.8 and it's now fixed.

Thanks to the development team! However, it would be nice to just reply to a message and say it's been logged as a bug .
