can't get on to skype on mac OSX 10.4.11 with 2.6 skype version (or newer)

I've tried 5.6 version and 2.8 and now have 2.6 but skype doesn't open.  I've been able to create an account but the screen for going on to make a call or add contacts doesn't open.  Am I doing something wrong, or will skype not work on my OS?   Susan

This may seem like a silly question, but have you installed the Skype application after downloading?  If so, what happens when you click on the Skype icon in the Dock?

Every time I go to get on skype my applications pops up and says that I do noy have access to skype. I do not know why it is doing this. It was working fine and then suddenly it kicked me off. I have a Mac OSx Snow leopard I think.

Skype 2.6 shows up on my applications list.  Doesn't that mean it's installed?  What do you mean by "Skype icon in the Dock?"

If Skype is in your Applicatins list, double-click it.  The programme should open, and the Skype icon will appear in the Dock.  Once that happens, click/hold (or right-click) that icon in the Dock, choose Options, and choose to have Skype remain in the Dock so it's there next time you want it.  The Dock icon, BTW, is merely an alias, 'pointing' to the application in the Applications folder.

Thanks for your help.  Got it figured out!  Now wondering if version 2.8 WOULD work with my 10.4.11 OSX system.  Don't have energy to try--tonight--and fail.

similar problem here. Just new to skype. Installed it on my computer. When I click the icon a box comes up saying "you cannnot open skype because it is not supported on this system"

I'm working on a Mac Powerbook g4 - running 10.4

oldapps.com/skype.php is where you can find older versions that will run on your architecture. My favorite on my old Powerbook was 2.0.0.3, 'tho later versions worked as well.

When we (it's not me with the problem) double click it just comes up with 'You cannot use the application "Skype" with this version of Mac OS X.' We would be grateful for your help.
