What can't I install Skype? Mac OS X 10.5.8

I am using a Mac OS X 10.5.8.

Model Identifier: iMac 8,1

Processor; Intel Core 2 Duo

It appears to download but the skype icon hasn't appeared on the desktop. When i click on the download it says:

"There is no default application specified to open the document Skype_2.8.0.866.dmg.part"

What does this mean?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i'm completely useless at understanding computers!

It seems that your file has not been completely downloaded (.part).

Please retry to download it from Skype webpage :

http://www.skype.com/intl/fr/get-skype/on-your-computer/macosx/

Direct link to 2.8.0.866 release is at bottom page.

I have managed to download it properly now. I think it was because I didn't have the latest version of quicktime.

HELP
i recently updated skype and now it doesn't work.

I am running a powermac G4 on OSX 10.5.8
dual 1.25 power pc
and version 7.7 of quicktime

the previous version worked fine, but when prompted to update, the new version doesn't work.

i deleted it and downloaded 5.3.6 from the skype site but when the disc image mounts the skype application is shown with a crossed-out-circle over the top and will not launch...

any ideas ?

Any iteration of 5.3 will not run on a PowerPC processor. You'll have to download 2.x, available from old apps.com.

I can't even download it.  I go to http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/get-skype/on-your-computer/macosx/downloading/ and click on "try again" and nothing happens.  Any suggestions?

I am trying to download Skype for my dad's new Macbook Air OSX Lion but after downloading it, it said that it didn't recognise the .dmg file etc. so I couldn't even open it. I have the exact same Macbook Air and when I downloaded Skype, it worked fine so I was wondering why it doesn't recognise the .dmg file.

I have tried unsuccessfully to install to Mac OSX 10.5.8, similar to others in this section.  Any suggestions?  I tried following the MAC instructions, but am still getting the following error:

"You can't open the application "Skype" because it is not supported on this architecture."
