Webcam is not working on skype with Ubuntu 12.04

I have a Philips SPC700NC web camera that does not work on Skype in Ubuntu 12,04. It worked on 10.04 but after the update it is not working. The camera is ok with Cheese as it was before the update, but not on Skype.
Any help to solve this problem is welcome.
Thank you.

Re: Webcam is not working on skype with Ubuntu 12.04

That's why you should not update your system prematurely. Lucid Lynx will be supported another 1 year so i suggest you wait at least 6 months to install 12.04

Now, it's too late for that. May I conclude that within 6 months or operating system and Skype will fit together?

Re: Webcam is not working on skype with Ubuntu 12.04

Greetings, mickmike.

I have solved my problem by creating a test file with Gedit in my desktop with exactly:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skype

In file's properties tick "Allow to execute file as program".

Whenever I want to launch Skype I just double-click the file and I'm ready to go.

Hope this solves your problem.

Of course, I'm assuming you're with Linux.

Best regards

Leite

Re: Webcam is not working on skype with Ubuntu 12.04

 Greetings, again.

It's very simple to do it

Just open Gedit that should be under acessories.

Paste: LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skype

and the save it on desktop, for instance.

By right click on his icon edit the properties of the file and in the Permission tab tick the "Allow execute as program". That's it.

Whenever you want to run Skype, just double click the icon of this file and select run in the dialog box.

If you want you can use my file witch is here:
