Just tested Video Conference and its OK.
Did not tested if it's possible for group video call.
I found a problem in Desktop Sharing, I guess it happens in the previous version too.
When I'm sharing my Desktop I can't do anything on it.
Seems that the mouse events are captured, maximize and minimize windows seems to work but very slow, but I'm not able to type.
The Desktop Sharing has a weird and confusing behaviour.
It would be great if this one will work fine someday, so I would be able to do some remote presentations during my class.

I installed Skype 4 on openSUSE 12.1 64bit. I used the 32bit rpm they offer (It would be nice if you could add a 64bit SUSE rpm).
Unfortunately, it runs even less stable then the old skype 2.whatever beta. The video quality is very good in the beginning, but starts to drop after a few minutes. Sometimes the video just freezes. When I try to recall, i.e. hang-up and call again, the connection fails and skype freezes. After restarting skype, connections don't work anymore. The simplest fix is to reboot. Which is really annoying.
It shouldn't be related to the internet connection itself. It's fast enough on both sides.
For now I switched to Google+ hangouts. Apart from the lack off fullscreen, that actually worked much better than Skype ever did on Linux. And the video quality is pretty good.
Dear Skype devs, better get busy fixing that. Google is a very strong competitor.
I'll gladly supply you with more information if you need any.
Btw, is there a proper place for bug reports? This page is just horrificly confusing.

I am new to Linux but it seems to be pretty cool
but I noticed that there is no version of skype to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and I hope to see it soon cause skype is a really great application.

The version for U10.04 LTS should work...or at least, the 2.2b version did.

Just tried Skype for Linux 4.0.0.8. Slightly better than 4.0.0.7. I can make outbound calls, but inbound calls answer and then immediately hang up. The calling party no longer gets the "the party you are calling has an old skype" message, but the call still fails.
Soooo, back to Skype 2.2Beta, again.

You can use any version of Skype for the latest version of Linux, including the latest ones. They only write 10.04 as the supported version because that's the one the Skype devs are testing on.

I had this problem with 4.0.0.7 after upgrading from Skype 2. Purging .Skype fixed it. See this thread:

I just tried the 4.0.0.x workaround of deleteing the ~/.Skype directory. I still can not receive incoming calls. As soon as I answer the calls drop. Outgoing a fine. Back to 2.2.0.35, again....

Hallo,
I also think we still need an update for Skype 4.0.0.8.
Incoming calls can still not be received, when using ALSA (without PulseAudio) and an USB audio device.
Please see my post on the other thread:
