Re: Voicemail settings

I'm using Skype on PC and Mac - both most current versions - I have voicemail box clicked and I've even gone in and selected seconds in forwarding menu on mac version as previously suggested. Basically, everything is set up and should work.

However, phone calls to my skype number just ring and ring - voicemail never picks up.

Any suggestions on troubleshooting further before I put in a ticket? (FYI - just a user, not a code guy....)

Thanks

Re: Voicemail settings

Strange, as I have the exact opposite problem: with Voicemail activated, my phone/computer never rings ~ I just receive an SMS to say that a new Voicemail has been received. I am missing calls, so I have had to turn off the voicemail
So my Mac (2 months old version) never 'hears' a call.
I don't want to try and mess with code to alter the number of rings so, to help so many of us, what are the chances the option can go back into the next version of Skype for Mac?

Re: Voicemail settings

Oakley I have the same problem as you! Recently turned off my call forwarding to my mobile as was costing me too much. Now I wish unanswered calls to go to voicemail, except it rings for half a second meaning I don't have a chance to answer. I am usinga mac.

Re: Voicemail settings

Ok, I have a workaround for the issue with setting the ring time before bouncing to email on Mac OSX if you haven't already found one.

- In preferences, open the Calls tab.

- Click the Call Forwarding checkbox.  I know, you dont want to forward the call, but hang on.

- Set the time to forward call to ~half of what you want it.  I set it for 10 seconds, because 20 seconds total works for me.

- now the important part - put your OWN skype id in the the forward field.  That's right, you are forwarding it to yourself.

- That's it!

So, what happens is this... the call rings thru to your account, and if you don't pick it up in 10 seconds... it forwards to the same account and continues ringing.  If you don't pick it up in 10 more seconds, it bounces to voicemail.

This is a total kludge, and an ugly solution - but it seems to work.

I hope it helps!

Brad

bradAtPicnet...

I can't wait to see if your solution works for me as well. As you know, ticking the Call Forwarding box and choosing the time before an unanswered call was picked up by voicemail does not work (at least for me on version 2.8.0.866). Without putting in a phone number to forward to, it defaulted back to having the Call Forwarding box unticked.

It looks promising though, since this default function did not activate this time and my username remains in the box... As soon as I have one of my contacts try to leave me a voicemail (and it works!), I'll let you know and will praise your brilliance.

Re: Voicemail settings

Also, shockingly- I discovered there's no History window in 5.3 ...  And the History function in the Skype window shows very little .....

I reverted to 2.8, and my History it back!

Re: Voicemail settings

There is a much easier solution.

On a mac go to Skype-Preferences-calls-forward calls-set up forwarding.

Set the time and where it says "forward to", just write voicemail.

Click Done. Voila. took me months to work this roundabout way out.

Re: Voicemail settings

Hi doronmilner,

Thanks for your response!

Yes, I'm on Mac.

Which version of Skype are you using?

Does that fix work with Version 2.8.0.866?

I've tried the newer versions at times, but they were all unacceptable.

(The latest took up way too much screen, and the History didn't work- for starters ...)

(I tried to enter a screenshot of what my v 2.8.0.866 menu display looks like, but the interface here won't insert the image. I get this each time: An Unexpected Error has occurred)

Thanks for your help!

Re: Voicemail settings

doronmilner: Uhm... your solution actually sets up a call forwarding to the Skype name "voicemail". I don't think that's what you want to achieve. The reason it looks like it's working that way is that the "Forward to" field also accepts Skype names.
