I have a MacBook Pro and have had Skype installed on it for 9 months. One day it shut off and said "Skype quit unexpectedly" . It then has a ton of gibberish that makes no sense to me and give you the option to hide details, OK, or reopen. None of which do anything. I have been without Skype for 3 months now and really would love if someone could help me figure this out. I have uninstalled and re installed numerous times with no luck. Please someone help me!!

I'm having the same problem. Is there a Skype technician who can explain the problem?
The error message, for anyone who can understand it, is:

Just to update:
I followed the "Help for Skype - Why does Skype for Mac OS crash my computer" steps, namely
- Make sure you are using the latest version of Skype for Mac.
- Make sure your system meets the minimum requirements for running Skype, as indicated at the end of this page.
- Update Mac OS X with the latest updates from Software Update.
- Make sure you have the latest version of Quicktime. [mine is Quicktime v. 10.0]
- Repair Disk Permissions using Disk Utility.
- Quit Skype, go to folder User/Library/Preferences, delete the file .com.skype.skype.plist and then re-launch Skype.
- Quit Skype, go to folder User/Library/Application Support/Skype, delete the file shared.xml and then re-launch Skype.
- Quit Skype, delete the folder User/Library/Application Support/Skype and then re-launch Skype.
- If you are using an external video device, make sure you have the latest drivers, available on the device manufacturer's website or from macam.
These had no effect.

Hi,
I'm having the same problems. Everytime I open Skype to try to call someone it crashes my computer. I then have to manually restart it. I just bought this macbook pro 1 week ago. It came with all the latest updates, quicktime player, etc and should be compatable with running video for skype.
After reading the above comments, I am surprised that this issue has not been solved yet. Are people still having these problems and how can we fix this?
Also, I tried starting a new movie recording on quicktime player only to run into the same problem. Is there an issue with the camera on macbook pro?? Any help would be appreciated. I love skype and hope I can continue using it...

It's not a new Macbook Pro though is it? It's second hand judging by what you're saying. It's probably got a problem with some other installed programme that isn't exactly compatible, as is often the case. I have a Macbook Pro, 2008 version, and it works a treat with Skype, including the iSight camera, and has done with all the recent versions up to the latest version 5.7.0 1130. But you must make sure that Facetime and iChat are closed down as they stop the camera from being used with Skype.
If it's a new Macbook Pro that you've got then the problem is inexplicable, nearly!

On the new Macbook Pro with Retina, Skype needs to start in low resulution mode, otherwise it just seems to crash.
- Go to your applications folder.
- Select the Skype application (click once).
- Right Click on the application icon and select 'Get Info' from the menu.
- Select 'Open in Low Resolution' from the menu box in the 'General' section.
Worked for me after a lot of trial and error!

I'm having the same problem. I try to open Skype and it just tells me there was an error. That's it. No where to go to ask questions. No advice. So is this ever going to get fixed or are we supposed to just keep guessing what's wrong? Some direction would be nice. Maybe it's a problem with my computer, but I have no way of knowing and it seems like Skype is just ignoring everyone who has a MacBookPro.
