Skype download not working on Mac OS X

Yes, we have an OLD computer - a Mac featuring OS X. Nothing fancy but she runs great. We had no problem downloading and using Skype on our PC laptop but just tried to download it to my Mac desktop and while the downloading process was easy and quick, as soon as I click on the Skype icon, I get an error box that says something to the effect of "this version of Skype is not compatible with OS X." HUH? Help, pls!

The most recent versions of Skype require an Intel processor.  Not to fret, however; you can download prior versions from oldapps.com

I suggest version 2.xx for starters.  If the later versions don't work, simply retrieve an even older one...

My MAC laptop is NOT old, has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and I get the same message. Suggestions?

I am having the same problem and cannot find and answer. Has anyone figured this out?

I have just spent the last 4 hours trying to get past step 4. I have a Mac OS X 10.5.8, have gone to the "old mac" download site and gone through all their steps as well. Still can't get past step 4. I'm not exactly computer literate but I'm not illiterate. Can I get some help? I just want to Skype with my grandsons in Alaska.

"Enter a password. You will use this to sign in to Skype. Your password is case sensitive, must be between 6 and 20 characters, and must contain at least one letter and one number."
