I updated from Linux Skype 2.2(Beta) to 4.0.0.7. A bad move.
Now when my friends Skype me they get a message that my Skype is too old and the connection fails. The new ring tone make no noise. Sharing my dektop crashes Skype.
So I'm back to Skype 2.2(Beta).
Sure Skype 2.2(Beta) only starts once every five tries on average, but at least after it starts I can make and get calls. Or at least one call, it usually crashes when the call completes.....
What a PITA.

Set of "Options->Sound Devices->Microphone" is totally useless.
Whatever I set up, always use the first microphone from list.
Version 2.2.0.35 work properly. OS is slackware, alsa work properly.

Maybe it's time to try pulseaudio.
Most popular distros are using pulseaudio over alsa.
