The new features will not make me want to endure 5.6, still going to stick with 2.8.  Please update the UI to let me hide/adjust un-wanted fields. How much does it take to hire an outside UI Consultant?  Clearly, the existing designers do not care about usability.

I fully support this thread. I would like to get the old and visually clear interface back. And I want the volume control button back. There's no option of adjusting the caller volume on a Mac!

Several months ago, I too tried to convince Skype to change their UI.  

THEY DO NOT LISTEN.

I'm a paying customer both phone in and out.

so...

I continue to use 2.8, look here when a new and unimproved version appears, and

look for a different VOIP company.

I really can't believe it. This catastrophy lasts for quite a while now. I have nothing new to add to all those postings. I - like every Skype user I know - am wating for a new(old) UI solution. This Skype Desaster has to stop.

How can I download the earlier version?  I just downloaded a new version and now my skype won't work.  My mac has the older 10.4 operating system.  Skype worked fine until I updated.

Try v.2.8.  If that doesn't work, you can go for even earlier versions.  Get 'em all at oldapps.com/skype.php

it's pretty obvious that they don't really care, and are not listening.  There is a singular lack of helpful presence here.  very disappointing.
