Okay, so I'll attempt to describe this process again.
- I have a pc with my current skype instance. I want to stop using that computer, or use it occasionally and start using a Mac as my main computer
- I want to take my db file from my old pc, move it to dropbox and when I setup skype on my new mac, run it from dropbox rather than locally
- On my old pc I would then setup skype, but it could just use the history feature to stay in tune with my main computer, the MaC/dropbox combination
- Any other computers I use would also just use the history feature to keep updated
Does that make it any more clear.
So what I need to know how to do is...
- I can move the db file/user folder to dropbox no problem from my old pc. But how to do setup skype on the mac to point to that file and begin working?

Perhaps this is a naive question, but why don't you simply install Skype on the Mac, log in, and use it? It may be that you'll find no need to do anything more complicated than that.

It's not a naive question. I want my files on dropbox as this is a leased computer and I am getting out of hte habit of having any personal data on my computers.

AHA! Now I understand, and I wish I knew how to advise you concerning Dropbox. I don't. But, like you, I try to limit (since I can't eliminate) electronic storage. Besides heavy encryption, I take great pains to do a DOD wipe of all drives before consigning old confusers to either the trash heap or the local school system (which some folks think are about the same thing). Sorry I can't be of assistance.

AHA is right! But I take it from the low level of response still that no one has done this, or at least no one reading this thead
.
Maybe I'll just post up a separate thread with this simple question.
"Can I use skype on a mac via dropbox"
Hmmm...I likey...

Hi All, thanks for everything but still no luck. Here is what is happening.
1. I can run skype no problem when I just pull my user folder onto the mac hard drive
This is obvious but I wanted to make sure that the user folder I've been using all these years on my pc actually works on a mac and it does. I can see all the old history, chats, etc.
2. So with that working I took the user folder (just the folder itself) not all the other files in the skype directory and moved it to dropbox. I then create a symlink from this user folder to dropbox. The idea is that skype would just look in dropbox for the same info is just saw in that folder moment ago locally.
When I do that I can this error:
Account:
B_IN_USE
Any idea what's up here? This seems like it should be way easier than it is.
