Launching Skype crashes Internet.

When I open Skype, my Internet connection starts glitching. Skype seems to work fine but no webpages will load. Downtime is anywhere between 3 to 5 minutes. This only happens when I launch Skype. I've tried restarting my wireless router and reinstalling Skype but nothing seems to resolve the issue.

System requirements for running Skype met on your computer and your connection ?

Did you try to use Ethernet instead of WiFi ?

March 7, 2012 - I had the same problem for a week. As sson as I started Skype, trouble started with the Internet. It said I was connected but skype said it was not able to connect. I tried several suggestions found in this forum, but a hint made me suspect another program was the guilty. Since this started about a week ago, I tried previous "restoring points" in Windows (XP), and it always resolved the problem. As soon as I reinstalled Skype (last version) headaches started again. IE8 froze, Google Chroem could not connect etc... Finally I was "illuminated" by a hint, and I uninstalled AOL Desktop 9.7, everything returned to normal. I erased even the last vestige of AOL 9.7 Desktop and rebooted the computer. It worked! I will probably reinstall AOL from zero, or use IE8 to go to AOL sign in page instead of using AOL program. Hope this will be useful to many, but at least, suspect another program as the culprit.

I have this problem too, Bradley. Except, my Skype will also go offline and so for that duration of time there is no browsing on the web, and my Skype is disconnected. In fact, this regularly happens every twenty minutes. There's maybe a 1-3 minutes lull, and then the internet and Skype are okay for another 20 minutes. This is getting really frustrating as I have contacted Skype Live Chat 7 times! Also, although the last tip was helpful, I don't have AOL on my computer at all!
