How to start Skype automatically when I start mac os?

I have installed skype on a mac and I need to start skype manually every time I log on mac os. On my pc skype starts as soon as I start windows. How do I get this option on a mac as well? I have browsed the setting options but I couldn't find this feature.

Thanks

Re: How to start Skype automatically when I start mac os?

Hi Anna,

Click on the Apple icon (left top of your screen) > System Preferences > Users & Groups.

Then, default, the "Password" button is selected on top. Click the other button "Login Items".

Here you can add items, applications, folders, even network locations which will be started upon login.

Find Skype in your Applications and add it and it'll start automatically when you startup your Mac.

(I have OSX Lion, if you have something else, it might be a bit different, but i expect the general idea to be the same

Good luck!

Cannot get Skype to start up automatically when turn on my Mac anymore. Went to System Preferences as you suggested but not seeing "User Groups" showing in my System Preferences? I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). Please Help. Thank you.

I don't recall the nomenclature of Snow Leopard's System Preferences specifically, but if you don't see Users & Groups, it's probably called Accounts.

That really doesn't give anyone much to go on but I'll jump into the fog with you and see if it helps.

First of all what did you do after downloading Skype to your Mac. You haven't even said what Mac and OS version you're using or what version of Skype. I'll guess it's a reasonably new Mac with either Snow Leopard or Lion on it as the OX.

If you're trying to"turn on Skype" from the web page you can try until you're blue in the face and it'll never work.

You have to download and install the programme first. Go the the following link and download it.

http://www.skype.com/intl/en/get-skype/on-your-computer/macosx/

When it's done double click on the resulting dmg file and a dialogue box will come up. Do as it says and drag the Skype icon onto the Applications icon. That will install your Skype programme. Then go to Applications in Finder, click on the resulting Skype programme there and it will open, asking you to sign in or create an account. There, that will be your Skype programme started and ready to go. You can't just start calling friends though, every friend has to be sent an invite which they have to accept. It stops roque callers and people you don't want.

Thank you MKichaa!!! "Accounts" in Skype System Preferences is there instead of "Users & Groups". I added Skype to Accounts and hopefully when I restart? It will be there. Thanks again.
