BAD NEWS for my Mac & Skype 5.7.0.1037 - can anyone help?

I have 2 mac laptops 15" & 17"

The 17" has there newer OSX 10.7.3... when I downloaded the new version online of Skype 5.7.0.1037 (because the pgm told me I should ('Download the New Version!) and tried to install it - I could not, got an install error telling me that their were files that were locked - could not continue.

So now my old skype on that mac is dead and the new one won't launch.

When the other Mac (OSX 10.5.8 - 15" unit) launched  Skype, it also wanted to get updated! NO WAY! I can't seem to get any support anywhere so I'm not upgrading until I can reach someone that can help.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this stuff... not the best experience for now!

I upgraded and regret it mightily. Do a clean uninstall and stick with what you had- your account will still be active.

If this is the future for Skype, it does not bode well. I wish Microsoft would have just stuck with MSN, the messenger that no one uses!

It installed fine for me, but I can't find a way to get my video to work anymore. Does anyone know how? Or, alternatively, how to do a clean uninstall? (since the upgrade was automatic, I am not sure how to do that or how to find the earlier version and reinstall it....would LOVE step-by-step instructions for a tech-challenged senior!) MANY thanks.

Have you used ichat (imessage beta) or FaceTime since the last time you used Skype because they hog the isight camera and you have to close them down as well as shut down and restart Skype for the camera to kick in with Skype.

Nope, I have not tried them... I do still use Google+ Hangouts without issues.

I Can't even restart Skype, it is DEAD! That's the point of my issue... can't make it work at all now that I've 'upgraded' -- not a good experience, and no help at all from any Skype people!

I am having the same problem with the video since I upgraded to the 5.7 versoin, no image at all. I have sound but the new version doesn't recognize the isight. And it is impossible to reset the camera. Help Skype! Please. It is mind-boggling that you guys didn't get this right...
