Will Skype be updated to include classic msn-features?

One of the reasons I use msn is because I enjoy being able to have custom emoticons, which as far as I know is only a feature on msn. If msn and skype are fused, does that mean you will preserve some of these classic msn-features, or will they be lost?

Other things that comes to mind are being able to personalize your nick name, setting a personal message, and chat-windows that are the size you want them to be. Perhaps the first two are possible on skype (I never use it for chat so I am not too familiar with what's possible and not), but the minimum chat window size is very annoying. I want to pick the size that is convenient for me, not the size the program thinks I should have.

Basically, if you insist on merging two totally different programs, do you plan to care for the users of the second? I really don't mean to sound whiney, I'm just worried that everything I love is going to be gone. I don't see myself continuing to use my msn-account if Skype doesn't become more msn-like, as I can't stand Skype chat as it is, and that would be depressing as I've been using it for a decade.

Yes! I support!

What about all the WLM features that Skype doesn't have?

You people should really think about it. Let us choose! I want to keep using my MSN, not Skype! If you want people to go to Skype, make it more attractive, add all those features of WLM to it. Don't force us!

I beg you.

I am concerned too about not having the same features in skype that WLM had. Will you enable offline IM in skype?  Also features like "vibrate" and "wink" are very helpful in getting someone who is afk to pay attention, I use them regularly, will you add those features to skype? Skype is good for calls but the interface and features are seriously lacking, don't make the mistake and eliminate the WLM features.

Excellent. I would like to know too.

How about a robust chat log that is available in a simple format (like text or HTML)? I know that Messenger didn't have one either, but third party software made it possible.

I am also curious if the UI will be revamped. Personally I find the Skype UI messy and not conducive for chatting with.

It is possible to personalize your nickname, just click on the Skype Home icon (the house icon) and choose Profile. From there you can enter a different display name, change your mood message etc.

If you want to have all your conversations in separate windows, then choose View --> Compact View. You can also choose the size for every chat window separately.

What about free offline message? What about all my custom emoticons from WLM? What about my custom font color? These are some crucial stuff I use everyday and you are forcing me to lose!

Re: Will Skype be updated to include classic msn-features?

Mart, that's not true. I am aware you can use compact view, and that it allows you to re-size windows to a certain degree, but the minimum allowed width is about twice as fat as msn is. I tend to play windowed full screen games, and the minimum msn size fits perfectly next to it so that I can see one chat window while playing. This is completely impossible with Skype. The only shape allowed is a fat box.

I have to second all the things others have mentioned here. Logs, offline messages, font, nudge. I can't wrap my head around how you are going to make Skype attractive to those who prefer msn, when the programs are SO different. I'm worried whomever decided this is just going to ignore all of those who like msn, and hope we'll just keep  using it and forget we hate it eventually. I don't work that way.

Re: Will Skype be updated to include classic msn-features?

I completely agree that, if we are forced to use Skype instead of WLM, we should at least integrate the basic that makes WLM an outstanding IM client.

Features that come to my mind are:

1) Custom emoticons

2) Custom nickname

3) The nice friendly UI that WLM has (not the blue/white classy Skype UI that I really hate)

4) Offline messages

5) Display the personalized messages beside the name (I can only see it from people who are using WLM, but I cannot edit my own personalized message)

6) ability to change my WLM display picture (seems like I can change my Skype display picture, which I really don't care at the moment)

7) Open Hotmail emails from Skype

 Nudges/winks?

Re: Will Skype be updated to include classic msn-features?

I agree, need to bring much more of messenger into Skype before it becomes friendly to messenger users.

I particularly would miss being able to sign in as invisible, without going "online" first.  Plus I like to be able to appear visible to some users and invisible to others while I am online.  These are easy in messenger.
